I used to be an FE lecturer. We had to set and mark assignments for engineering students as part of the course.
They were used to assess written communication skills for BTEC and City & Guilds courses.
I had a few disagreements with my senior lecturer when I marked students down for poor spelling and grammar! If they were too bad they were told to resubmit!

Surely, this "I used to be an FE lecturer." should read "a FE".
If so, please resubmit.
Actually I think it may be correct. If you use the initials "FE" in speech then "an" works.
It does, because the capital F is said “eff”, with a vowel sound to start. So - I used to be a Further Education lecturer (and yes, I was too) or I used to be an FE lecturer.
I had students from the Czech Republic under the Erasmus scheme. The students could answer some of my exam questions with a labelled or annotated drawing; the only UK students who did this were the dyslexic ones, the Czech ones usually did.
Our English Grammar teacher must be turning in her grave. She was the kind of person who commanded utter respect but would be laughed out of the classroom now, dreadful sign of the times.

Quite correct. Remember we say (most of us) “an hotel” not “a hotel”
It is one of the rules of english grammar.
Thank you I thought I was correct.
I read a lot and have noticed that US writers like to use the term "gotten"
It is also creeping into some books by UK authors and the Daily Mail online journalists!
Annoying
