High fat low carbohydrate ? How can that be healthy ? You need a balanced diet. Porridge for brekkie. Fish & veg for dinner. Snack on fruit whenever. Slice of wholemeal bread & peanut butter for tea but only if hungry. Drink mostly tea & water. No cakes no sweets. No fruit juice it’s liquid sugar. Eat like that & the weight will fall off.

Also avoid all bread as bread even wholemeal bread contains a lot of sugar. I managed to lose nearly 10kg over 6 months.

Thanks, I have found a recipe for keto bread using almond flour. At Billy, it's pretty much like Stone Age men used to eat, nobody was fat until cereal crops were discovered. Fruit apart from berries is also not good.

A friend did it for the recommended 12 weeks. No carbs meant no bread, rice, fruit, pulses, beans, alcohol. She lost some weight but was bored bored bored. And it caused a gallstone flare up: check if you have any specific medical conditions because it does not suit everyone.
I have several male friends who have slimmed noticeably with the 5:2 diet. Eat healthily (ie as usual) for 5 days, choose the least inconvenient 2 days to fast (pretty much liquid only is a bit drastic but doable for 2 days & could include home made soup). I thought one chap had been unwell, he lost so much, but gradually & more important - it has stayed off.

I am also type 2 diabetic and take Metformin (Glucophage) that is why I decided to lose weight as it was getting out of control.
My granddaughter is a registered dietician in the NHS and deals with people with eating disorders, particularly diabetes, and advised me not to do any (as she calls them Fad diets)but stick to a well balanced diet that includes all foodstuffs in moderation and it worked for me.

Its not cereal crops making people fat. Its people making people fat.

I used to work in the food industry - late 90s early 00's - and we had a range of gluten free foods, which were available on prescription for medically diagnosed coeliacs By far the largest part of our business was people who weren't coeliacs but had a "condition" - usually imagined - everyone thinks they are "special".   Nowadays GF food is all over the place but it was quite niche back then.

One of the nutritionists used to say that a diet needed to be "affordable, practical, and sustainable" and diets that exclude a key food group (you are not allergic to) were both unhealthy and not sustainable.    

Since we were "stoneage" and living on grubs slugs and snails (rarely a mammoth despite the film with Raquel Welch) our physiology has evolved to eat carbs etc - you can see a parallel where certain ethnic groups have an intolerance to milk, as over the years they haven't built up the enzymes to digest it.   

It is thought keto can help with diabetes but the benefit is only there while you are on the diet - and long term the diet is generally thought to be risky.

Much more evidence is needed - but, there is enough evidence that Keto is dangerous for me to seriously avoid it - particularly the stuff around damage to bone health, blood pressure, your gut biome, risks of kidney damage, and increasing evidence it can contribute to alzheimers.

It strikes me that the fad diets are basically just people/companies cashing in on people's inabilities to balance their plate and do moderate exercise. The again, its your body, if you want to live off raw onions and rub radishes on your feet, its up to you.

If diabetes is a worry, have a think about intermittent fasting - it gives the pancreas an opportunity to switch off and has worked v well wrt to weight loss for a few people of my acquaintance.
