Sitting watching TV and feeling slightly guilty about thinking about a holiday in December, when on came an ad for NEXT summers holidays! Come on, it's just the end of August. Having dreams is one thing, but who knows what tomorrow will bring, let alone 9 months hence.
I would happily ban all talk of that holiday in December until November, and summer holidays until after Easter. I would also replace Easter with the Spring Equinox. At least we would know what date it was on.
Not sure where or when I will go next, but I won't book it for a while yet.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
I booked my flights to Canada for next April 2024 as soon as I was able to in May 2023.
A 3-night trip in Torquay booked as part of a group booking with fellow members of the service charity club that I belong to.
Also booked 3 camping trips for 2024: Easter which is early next year, June and August (adult-only).
No doubt I shall book one of September 2024's trip when I go to my favourite site this Saturday 02 September 2023.
It's good to plan ahead - my monthly hair appointments are booked up until February 2025!

We both still work and have to book our holidays a year in advance so we stand a chance of both getting the same time off.
I went to book September next year and there was already only one week I could have, as we are all older at work and book outside school holidays.
We are going to Madeira at the end of May to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, that has been booked for 4 months already, the price has already gone up by nearly £300, so glad we booked early.
Yes it is a pain having to plan our holidays, but that’s the joy of having to work still. Hey ho.
We’ve book our ferries for January going to Spain and the one for going to France in May. The ferry for Spain was booked a month ago. We were disappointed as all ferries were booked and the earliest one we could get was the 18th January. All the earlier ferries were fully booked, so I would say to book as early as possible.
Good/popular adult-only sites get booked up very soon for August school holidays, hence I would book my stay as soon as the site I have in mind accepts advance booking for the following year.
I am monitoring tunnel prices and am likely to book soon.
Flights are worth booking as early as possible for the cheapest prices based on my own experience.

I don't know where we will go for our next trip, never mind next year. May go to Greece for a late one if flights go from Luton to mainland Greece.
My daughter is just back from a business trip to Thessaloniki. She said it was far too hot and hard to find shelter from the heat. She wasn't impressed by the city or the food. Coming back, Greece air space was restricted due to the wildfires and delays were made worse by tropical storms.
Hopefully things are getting better in that end of the world.
As for booking early, I can't do that because I don't know where or when I'm going. I admit that being retired makes that easier, but even when I was working, I never booked more than a few weeks in advance.
Now, I do know where I'm going in a couple of weeks, and that's Lisbon.
Hope it's not too hot.

We have a cruise in November. It was booked for last year but my wife fell and broke her ankle and collarbone The insurance paid out so,we rebooked this year. Same cruise 3 days longer and quite a bit cheaper.
We are having 10 days in Somerset in the van this month then possibly another break in early October before half term!

We are tied to the school holidays. Theres quite a lot of good logic in booking next years school-holidays-holiday now given that the government arent anywhere like on track keeping inflation down.
We used to book up to a year ahead when we were both working and we usually flew to somewhere abroad. Those days are long gone now though, and we tend to stay in this country now. We have only just booked a week away near the south coast for later this month! Nothing planned at all beyond that, we will wait until much nearer the time.
No problem booking the site we wanted this month, even though we only did it a few days ago. We never usually have any problems, because we normally start our holidays on a Monday, when all the weekenders have gone home. Sites are often half-empty on Mondays, even if they were booked solid over the weekend. That even applies at the beginning of July usually.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
