I was quite surprised to receive notification of my WFA for this year.
In previous years it's been much later. Mrs.L is still waiting for her notification. I don't know they decide when you receive things, but I had thought that a married couple living at the same address would receive letters at the same time.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
My wife has never had one, I thought they were per household. What is the qualifier for claiming this? All my wife gets is her basic state pension, and even that is not a full one.
Colin, this is automatic. I'm older than Mrs.L so when I came of pension age, I got the full amount (then £200). After Mrs. L got her state pension, the amount was split between us.
We didn't have to do anything. From the Govt. website...
You qualify for a Winter Fuel Payment if both the following apply:
you were born on or before 25 September 1956
you lived in the UK for at least one day during the week of 19 to 25 September 2022 - this is called the ‘qualifying week’

Thanks Capt. I'll have to look into this further. My wife and I are exactly the same age, or at least within 4 days. She certainly complies with both those requirements. I have been getting £200 each year, my wife has had nothing with regards to WFA ever.

Colin, the total amount you get per household is the same; whether you get 1 allowance (£200) or 2 in the case of both being of pension age and entitled to it. My OH is older than me and he got £200 when he qualified. When I reached that milestone, all that happened was that we each get £100, so still a total of £200.
Your wife should have got a letter when she qualified for the payment, obviously that didn't happen. But you haven't lost out financially as you've still been getting the correct amount.
This year the total is £500 as Captain L has posted, due to getting an additional £300 due to the high energy costs. I have had my letter, yesterday, but OH hasn't yet. So my letter said I'll get £250 this year (my £100 plus half of the total of £300). So between us still £500.

Thanks Ina. I have just had a letter saying that I will be getting £500 but my wife has heard nothing. Then again she hasn't heard anything from them since we retire 10 years ago. Now I know why if what you say is correct.

Sounds like that's correct Colin. £500 total. A couple gets no more than a single person.
Sounds like your very old computer upset their system.
This computer is ultra-modern compared to one I have upstairs, which runs Windows 3.11. It still works too, although it isn't connected to anything else.
