Ordered gift cards direct from Amazon, just been delivered, the Amazon package had been opened, one of the gift card security seal was broken. Took photos, contacted them immediately, on line chat, gave number of compromised card, refund agreed immediately. So my lesson learned was check package seal with the delivery person in attendance. Second lesson do not order gift cards from Amazon, it ain't worth the emotional hassle, it was a high value card, a lot of money to be scammed out of.
they do have tracking on their vehicles, so from your address and the vehicle route they will know the driver. normally small items are delivered in sealed grey plastic bags which are heat sealed, i have always had to use sissors to get into said bags. Although they are starting to use american style thick paper bags which are sealed
It’s becoming a real problem I’m afraid.
Two of my friends have had empty boxes delivered, one had a Sthil strimmer head missing ( box had obviously been opened and said item stolen ) and another who had a TV stolen ( his wife took the delivery and he couldn’t believe she didn’t notice how light the box was ! )
These thefts are either by the warehouse staff or the couriers I should imagine ?
Photos of items supposedly delivered to you when it is clearly not your house or a neighbour’s is another common problem.
Another Ebay scam to be weary of is you order something from Ebay say an airfyer and you pay by paypal.
The item is marked as dispatched then the courier marks the item as delivered, but you have not received the item.
The scam here is that the seller has sent a small item to a friends address but marked it as your airfryer .
Trying to prove that you have not received it is a nightmare.
This happened to us, we are in Devon and the item was delivered to an address in Colchester ( not an airfryer though )
I’m afraid these scams are going to become more and more common as the likes of Amazon continue to destroy the high street.
I would say always check your parcels for obvious signs of tampering and refuse it at the door as long as it has not been thrown / stuffed behind your wheely bin or something other that is !
The high street destroyed itself as much as Amazon etc are destroying it. Council parking charges can easily hit £10 for a days shopping, alternatively, going by train (if its running, runs on time, isnt overcrowded and they arent on strike) over £30 for the three of us, plus parking at the station. A quick pint is out of the question now (price), but you gotta eat. Going shopping alone can easily cost £50 before you buy anything.
My local town - free parking and a great butchers, hardware shop, greasy spoons, charity shops - is brilliant but useless if I want to buy a telly. Or clothes. Early next year the middle of town will have no post office. The only bank left is Lloyds (I dont know if its still open).
Wife bought trainers in a high street shop - fell apart in 2 months - shop wouldnt exchange/refund. On Amazon it would have been simple.
I bought a remote control car a few years ago on Amazon it failed in less than a year and the seller (through Amazon) wouldnt refund - Amazon customer service sorted it out in less than an hour.
Bought a bathroom cabinet in Ikea, I'd say 10 years ago, mirror doors didnt fit. Had to drive all the way back to Bristol to get it sorted. On Amazon, (or even Ikea online) would have been sorted from home.
Went in Barclays bank Frome the other day - they told us to do what we needed to do would be easier online. The branch closes in January I believe.
Christmas presents? Cheaper and guaranteed availability on Amazon without taking a day off to spend a fortune getting into Bath and traipsing round it getting progressively more miserable.
Never had a problem sorting a problem - and I buy loads of stuff off Amazon - I suspect it might be because I've got prime?
The only things i purchase on Amazon are low value items.
Wouldn't dream of getting something above say £25 of there and certainly not electrical stuff unless its from the manufactures page and even then i would be very cautious.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Strikes me if you have a strimmer with a bit missing or an empty box thats supposed to have a telly in it , its a very simple return under the distance selling regulations as "goods not as described".
Ordered new handbrake switch for my car from amazon. Waited for delivery, checked on amazon, marked as delivered. Complained and money refunded had to order another, came just before MOT test thankfully.

Thats not being an Amazon fan - thats the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (which replaced the Distance selling act from years ago). Applies to pretty much all sales of physical items that are bought by any other means than in-store (there are exemptions but trust me strimmers and TVs aint any of them :-) ).
These rights are actually more rigorous than purchases made in-store, where most of your protection is simply the Sale of Goods Act, which dated 1979 is way out of date and , in my view, insufficiently bolstered by the Consumer Rights Act in a way that a cynic would say is so confusing as to deliberately confuse people.
Amazon Prime seems to buy more protection from Amazon themselves in terms of how quickly they deal with problems - e.g. youll get a refund before returning on trust you will return. I do know that "Prime" contracts exist between Amazon and their suppliers so it could be in there (I dont know a lot about this).
