Looking out of my window (Spare bedroom used as computer room) I've noticed people up ladders hanging weird looking wires and baubles from their homes and garden, at night they become coloured lights and dazzle everyone.
She Who Must Be Obeyed doesn't want to be the odd one out and told me to do something....So I did

Like it. A few in our road think I won't bother this year save electricity!
Yes, I was think about electricity saving measures too.
So, this year, I'm going back to the old way of having candles on the tree. Only to be lit when it's dark.
------------- I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
I’ve noticed a considerable amount of large (Griswalds style displays) toned right down this year or haven’t bothered. Just more of the misery bestowed apon us by those in charge !
BTW SWMBO has asked me to fetch the tree in and get the decorations from up stairs 😜
Our Christmas decorations went up at the weekend. The big tree in the front room, a little tree on the table behind the desk where I work in order to brighten up online meetings and a wreath on the front door. Before the pandemic we just had the big tree and wreath but during the pandemic, many of my students were getting really depressed so I got the little tree and put it behind me in my online lectures. It started a whole trend of everyone decorating their background and cheered everyone up immensely so I have kept up the tradition! All my lectures are back in the building now but the little tree is still nice for days when I have no, lectures and work at home.
What a good idea, Pixie_Hez! Spreading some online cheer. My outside lights and porch tree are up; the inside stuff will happen over the next few days. Now that the lights are all leds the cost is minimal so I don't skimp on lights. I don't put as much up in the house as I used to, but enough to keep the grandsons happy and give the place a festive look - love a bit of twinkliness. I miss having a real tree, for the scent as much as anything, but a small artificial one fits on the broad alcove shelves so I don't lose any floor space in my small living room and it's safely out of reach of dangerous tail-wagging when my daughter's dog comes to visit! I used to go for the 'kitchen sink' style of tree decorating, but now I have a collection (too many!) of baubles and bits in different colour schemes. This year will be red and white Scandi-style, I think.
------------- Always edited for sloppy typing - when I spot it!
We have an artifcal tree we bought in about 91! It's still OK but a few bits do,fall off so it's realistic. We keep meaning to get a new one in the sales after Xmas! Not tight but I don't want to have a real one which will die.
Brother and sister in law plus labrador are probably coming for new year s9 tree has to be out of tail way!
I am not a fan of Xmas its a big marketing hype for one day in my opinion.
We aren't particularly religious, in fact my wife does not believe.
Might get it out might not. I don't put anything up until nearer the time anyway.
------------- DS-There's more to life than football!!!
As Audrey fforbes-Hamilton said in a Christmas episode of 'To The Manor Born'..."Xmas?...sounds like a skin complaint and "The closest some get to Christianity is stirring their coffee with an apostle spoon."
Now that's comedy at it's best even if it is true.
Now that there's only the two of us fogeys at home, and has been for quite a few years now, I don't usually bother climbing up in the loft and getting anything down until at least the 15th of this month. Nobody but us will see it until Boxing Day anyway, that's when all the family come round.
I have noticed that far fewer people round our way have all their outsides lit up this year like they have in the past. It's much more low-key, and I suspect it's down to the energy crisis as this isn't a particularly wealthy neighbourhood. Lovely area though and very popular.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
