I see it’s cast iron? That the one?
I used to have one (not Lodge). You need to proof them before using, to make them non stick & stop them rusting. Thereafter, you clean them with very hot water (I used to boil a kettle & pour it round), minimising the use of detergent (better, not using it at all) because that removes the proofing. Occasionally when it looked particularly black, I’d take it back to bare metal & reproof it. So, cook with oils or butter etc, minimise adding liquid. It does a great steak, for searing the outside & then turning down the heat; let it heat up first before adding the meat. Great for charring bell peppers too. The handle will get almost as hot as the base, you’ll need an oven glove (or whatever you use).
Disadvantage: weight. I struggled to lift mine, I had to use both hands. Mine had a wooden handle which didn’t get hot to hold, but eventually it started to rotate when I lifted the pan. So it went into the metal recycling bin. My mum was delighted to see the back of it.
