Well a neighbours 5ft Royal python is loose not poisonous. But OH not happy as keepers what can you tell me that will calm things down at home.
Reading having a mongoose is not helping
So keeping snake away from family home / what to do if seen / is small 4kg dog either in danger or will he deter the snake.
No horror stories please, the one about snake in the toilet has done more harm than good.
So as snake minders, cool, calm and sensible replies are required.
Over to you.

I do hope the neighbours have told the RSPCA.
Judging by their website, it needs warmth, eats mice not dogs. If you see it, tell the RSPCA or the neighbours - unless they’re happy it’s escaped. And / or you could pick it up behind the head & by the tail and take it back to the neighbours. It’s not venomous, like you said.. Keep doors & windows not open wider than a python: on trickle.
The poor python that came out of a toilet had been flushed away down another one because the owners didn’t want it any more.
Thank you Fiona, have shown OH things calming down now.

That's extremely irresponsible of your neighbours! Why anyone would want to keep a python as a pet is beyond me. If one appeared near or - God forbid! - in our house it would likely cause a heart attack, I kid you not.
Surely some authority or other should be alerted when a snake gets out?
Yes agree with everything you have said and you can imagine what it's like here, Snake still not found it is presumed to be hiding or looking for a mate.
I will admit I did not help by saying ( nowt to worry about ) and ( stop mithering )
Many hours later and now knowing that every time I have used the sayings and have been wrong
Each occasion is imprinted on OHs memory. As this one will be.
So I will thank Fiona again, the post did calm and give a plan of action from someone other than me.
Yes the lid to the toilet is now kept in the closed position.

The Royal or Ball Python is a very timid snake and totally harmless and will feed on mice and rats not dogs and cats.
They are renowned starvation champions and will often go on a hunger strike for months.
They grow to a maximum 5ft ( shorter than our indigenous Grass Snake ) and again I repeat TOTALLY HARMLESS.
They need a constant 85 degrees so it will die quickly if not found.
Urbster …
who has kept lots of snakes and spiders in the past.
I used to do talks in schools and take a selection of Pythons in for the kids to handle as they were nice and docile. My nephew, who worked for the RSPCA used to rescue them from people who didnt know what they were doing.
It will not appear out of the toilet and will probably still be inside the couch, or behind a radiator or somewhere else warm in the house.
A 5 footer will manage a big rat, nothing more.
We did have a 12 foot female Burmese python that was more than capable of taking a dog, but if these are rare in the uk, and if well fed will not be interested. She is now 16 foot long and lives on a city farm, and goes round schools as a teaching aid. Snakes eat when they need to, they do not just fancy a snack.
also Pythons do not jump out from behind furniture, fangs poised ready to devour anything in sight.
they cant fly planes either....
all in all, they are right lazy buggers.
statistically, you have more chance of being bitten by your own dog than next doors snake
Several years ago, I heard from a family a few doors away about their lost corn snake and how they had found may months later in the ivy covering their garage.
I thought they were very inconsiderate, not telling people living in the area about the loss. Just imagine the effect on somebody doing a bit of gardening and suddenly seeing this snake there. You would have no idea if it was dangerous.
Snake still not found, the one on the BBC news site climbing in through the window didn't help this week. If I want fresh air I will need to go camping
