Hi. I have found a couple of old cb's in the loft. One is a Ham Major 360 AM/FM /upper and lower sideband The other is a not as old 27/81 fm cb. I think the frequencies must have changed as I cant get anything on either of them. I know with the ham if you set it the bands one to low and the other to high then chan 73 fm was the same as fm chan 19 but nothing. I found the same with the legal 27/81 rig too. I think the aerial is ok but it could be just that nobody uses cb anymore. Any ideas?
CB is just about dead or it is around my way. There are still a few die hards who ragchew on Channel 19.
You should do ok with the Ham Major, Midband 40 is good for the USA and Europe when the conditions are right.AM and LSB for the States, LSB-AM and FM for Europe.
Put it on High Band channel 12 USB thats the calling frequency, when the conditions are right you can talk all over the World
73 Good Luck and Good DX.

Don't know where Surfin resides, but it's the same now where I live ("Bargain Town", near "Rainy City" ) - I still have a Jaws Mk2 (40 ch AM), Uniace (27/81), Rotel 240 (27/81) - and a (slghtly modified) Cobra 148 GTLX - it covers 24.925 to 28.775...

When I was young (a long time ago) cb was all the rage. The town near where I lived was known as “night city” for one simple reason. By 6pm it was totally dead!
