Following on from the trials and tribulations of finding car insurance, I have had similar problems with house insurance.
My house dates back to the 1840's, is built from locally quarried stone and with a Welsh slate roof. As you can imagine, a house that is nearly 200 years old would possibly require specialist builders to do any major repairs.
This gives rise to the insurance companies, either refusing to cover it, or bump up the price because of high rebuilding costs - almost 3 times the market value.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
My car insurance with Saga was fixed price for 3 years. This ended in July
With a large increase. We looked on the Meerkat site and got much lower quotes including rom the company that Saga use! I phoned them and got renewal at half price Saga wanted.
All insurance has gone up. We are looking at getting annual travel insurance cover. As we are over 70 with the odd medical issue, prices are quite steep. Joys of old age

Our motor insurance decreased by £200 at last renewal. No rhyme or reason. House insurance increased from £400 to £900. Needless to say shopped around. When I queried it, the reply was "costs rise", so why is the same cover available £400 cheaper elsewhere?
A four bed detached in London may be £10m, the same property 200 miles away could be £500k. For insurance purposes both will cost a similar amount to rebuild.
