I hadn’t realised until this morning (after an interview with Sir Michael Palin) that David Attenborough was at one time Controller of BBC1 & 2. As such, he commissioned Call My Bluff, The Old Grey Whistle Test, and Monty Python's Flying Circus, amongst others.

A real national treasure.
I fondly remember the TV footage of Sir David and the Queen on their 90th (?) birthdays wandering round the grounds of Windsor Palace (?) commenting on the various trees.
