I have loads of the giant ones in the garden. Had enough of them and used a whole bottle of beer in a tray last night to give them a drink. By 4am there were about 30 slugs having a party, 7am this had reduced to about 15. I put the tray on the garden table as I couldnt decide what to do with it, this afternoon there are only about 8 left. So far this evening the garden is nearly free of slugs. Something is either eating them or I have a load of slugs hiding in the hedges with severe hangovers - serves them right

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Just been reading the thread about the lack of wasps this summer, but has anyone noticed the number of snails and slugs this year?
I was out with the dogs one night recently and wondered what all these shiny brown things were on the grass verge, thought someone had dropped a load of Maltesers, it was hundreds of snails of all sizes. What I really dislike is accidently standing on them, yuck
When I was away last week there were loads of big black slugs on the farm track next to the site, double yuck when you squish them!
Presume it is to do with the amount of rain, but wonder if it will have an effect on nature. What I mean is if dry weather brings bees and wasps which pollenate the flowers, what contribution do slugs and snails make?
omg !!!! just before i read this about hour ago hubby went in garden come back and said jesus not seen so many slugs and snails out there yet no wasps ....just goes to show we all thinking the same thing
I like to share mine with the horrid old woman that lives next door so just put disposable gloves on, pick them up and sling them over the fence and then just hope they don't find their way back.
I've had so many slugs and snails that I'ver lost countless bedding plants and whole pots have been destroyed by them, finally enough was enough when they started terrorising the guinea pigs, after industrial amounts of Bran flakes and Beer, they met a fairly happy death, and managed to keep the bird population happy at the same time, it's lovely taking the dog outside last thing at night and not bringing slug guts in on my shoes.
I have also noticed that there are plenty of slugs about. I have found this month to be the preferred month for them taking air trips into the disused ground behind the house.
I used to feed some feral cats, and can vouch for the attraction dishes of 50/50 milk and water in shallow bowls, have for kamikazi slugs. Why waste good beer!!
