I still have my 1969 model Husqvarna, purchased in Norway for about £200....a lot of money in those days. It has a free arm, buttonholes, about 30 embroidery stitches, stretch stitches etc, a very robust machine. Only problem is, it is very heavy.
I have a Bernina that I bought in 1970 for about £120, very expensive at the time, and it has been fantastic. Most schools used them in the 60's and 70's and they're sturdy and reliable. I would recommend getting a quote to have yours repaired.

Sometimes a little rain must fall before you reach a rainbow.
The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.
About twenty years ago my wife pestered me to buy her a sewing machine. It was going to be the best thing since sliced bread & there would be no limit to the things she was going to make. I think I paid about £300 for it. In the twenty years she has made 2 tie backs & a cushion. It now lives up the loft.
My Bernina is an 807 Minimatic, no idea if it is still in production but the parts to buy are very expensive, so I'd better have a few projects ready to validate the spend.
I'm not about to start a patchwork quilt but I may have a go at making a carpet for one of the tents. the intention is to but one for one of the large Vango's and trim it to size. I could also make a mat for the air bed which prevent sliding and make help to avoid the dreaded puncture. Vango carpets are the only ones I like, some of the designare really hideous (rather ahve cold feet than live with a chcked carpet!!)

I thought my lovely old Cresta sewing machine had given up the ghost recently. It was given to me by a friend years ago. Cleaned it all out, but the shuttle was not working, it seemed to be seized up, even after oiling it all with fine machine oil... So I was looking for a new machine. The next day, I thought I would just see if the oil needed time to work, and hey presto! Machine up and running again! It is very heavy, but I wouldn't swap it for a modern one unless I absolutely had to!
I have to say I am impresse by the number of creative people out there.
I think camping people seem to appreciate nature and are creative types. This is probably why we always find common ground when we meet people.
I've yet to meet the exact combination as me though...I'm a choral singer and love classical music with a passion. Its our annual performance of Messiah on Sunday at St Georges Hall, Bradford, so it will feel Christmassy from then on. This will be the 10 time I have performed this, and I can clearly remember the first time..there I was in Leeds Town Hall thinking, "goodness this is fast", and "I don't recognise this one". Now it's pure magic. I just wish my parents were alive to hear it. I try to keep my Mother alive in me by sewing, she would love it. I can remember goibng to St Theresa's church in Crossgates and listening to the choir singing the Credo in the Latin mass and thinking how wonderful the sound was..........all these years later I'm there.
