bestyman not true, read my post again, Halifax have offered me £600 credit, and it appears even if you pay up in full there is still a charge % wise, saga is the same

We tend to just use our debit card everywhere, and maybe once or twice at an ATM in the fortnight.

There is no charge on the Halifax Clarity card if you pay the balance off in full and the payment reaches them by the date on the monthly bill.

This is a quote from their site "No interest will be charged on purchases if every statement balance is paid in full by the payment date".

i did and hsbc hit me for £4 plus everytime i used it,plus atm charge of about £2-20 every transaction was costing me about £6+, on about £200, i thinks this caxton card is the way to go, i think you have missed the point, i cant got into a bar, have a couple of pints and get the card out, its just not feasable, so i need cash, and as i said before, i dont want to be carrying two grand about,

well the halifax card is a non starter, as i said before £600 is no good to me for a stay of one month,and as i have now retired, my income is not to their liking,

They most likely only offered a maximum credit of £600 based on your earnings, which if only a state pension then the credit offered would be about right.

As I have said in an earlier post I have been retired for 10 years and instantly got a credit limit of £4.5k most likely because I have a very good works pension. I am not yet in receipt of a state pension.

Like you I also have thousands in the bank, but they do not take that into consideration as they want to know about earnings/income.

I still believe the way for you is to open a current account with the Norwich & Peterborough Building Society.

I have a Post Office Mastercard and a Nationwide visa as back up - solely for foreign transactions.  0% commision of that is what you are looking for.  Credit limit is a personal item so they will offer you whatever they see as appropriate  - in their eyes
