Thank you all for replying - I thought it couldn't just be us!
It's our first time (me and OH). We're driving down on Tuesday night, staying locally in a hotel (final bath!) then getting there on Weds. Very excited
I haven't been since the 80s ('87, I think was my last time).
Back then, you could drive onto the camping fields, park your car by your tent, build a bloody great bonfire and pretty much do what you like. There never used to be police on the site and lots of people even took their dogs.
The more organised it got, the less I liked it.
Some of the conditions attached to festival tickets nowadays amaze me. I understand that a lot won't let you take in your own food and drink, so you have to buy all the overpriced stuff from the food concessions. We used to cook our own stuff when I was still a festivalgoer.
I always found it very weird when you left, and saw people who weren't covered in mud for the first time in days.
Its Pilton to us , not Glastonbury , that's what us locals call it . We live in the village and we love it the whole buzz of it , we go every year as villagers get free tickets , come rain or shine . We call it are village fete !! Have fun and enjoy yourself .
Most festivals allow you to take food as far as I know. Most don't allow you to take drinks into the arena, where the stages are though, which is ridiculously annoying. Glastonbury is different though, you can take your drinks with you wherever you like.
I know Reading and Leeds ban gas stoves but after several tents got burnt down a few years back, this is just sensible. When I worked Leeds last year I didn't see one burnt out tent, so glad that's not happening now.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
