North Devon campsite kindly hasn't charged us for our cancelled booking as the weather might hit them so we are definitely going to give them our custom as soon as we can!

Not sure we would get this service at any other sites?? May be wrong.

Here in Sussex it's very windy and chucking it down already! I'm not looking forward to Monday morning.

We often get power cuts in high winds, so I've checked the batteries in both camping lanterns and got them sitting on the kitchen worktop just in case they're needed.

My next door neighbour has moved his chicken coop into a sheltered spot in the garden. Large bits of shed have migrated along the street before now, so I guess a chicken coop could get blown away.

I daresay we're in for a sleepless night tomorrow. Itt's windy on our hill at the best of times.

Lastest BBC news is advising people to check with their ferry company before travelling, some sailings have already been cancelled, others may follow suit later.

There may also be some disruption to flights as aircraft become grounded, whilst other incoming flights may get diverted away from the south.

I'm intrigued by the notion of 'human ballast'! If you're unlucky enough to be caught in such inclement weather then you may (or not) have much choice - either watch your pride and joy blow away or try to salvage it by weighting it down with anything to hand: including yourself.

Surely though it is mainly psychological? If your 'van weighs 1400kgs then you would have to be very lucky for an additional 75kgs (average adult weight according to the EU) to prevent the 'van from being blown away? Every little helps I know, but risking your life unnecessarily to prevent damage?

Does anyone lash down their 'van using the holes in the chassis (Alko) to tie-down points or is this likely to cause more damage to the 'van as the walls and roof will move but the floor will not move with it - best to let the 'van rock slightly on its suspension rather than securing it tightly.
