Domestic waste disposal is paid from council tax, trade waste is not. The 'rules' might seem arbitrary but if they were relaxed then traders would have even more scope to dump their waste disgused as domestic waste.
Generally speaking low paid workers at the sharp end are instructed to stick exactly to the rules laid down to them & I'm sure this does actually reduce costs to council tax payers by removing any leeway they might have in accepting non domestic waste.
Our local recycling centres are very good.Staff very helpful, you can take carloads of stuff!
If you have a trailer or a privately registered van/pickup you can get a book of permits free from the council.( Just to prove you are not trade!)
My mate had a Landrover Defender without side windows so they would not let him in without the permit. I had a similar Landie 88 station wagon-no problem.
This was swapped for an old Range Rover-you can get stacks in those! When my neighbour was clearing out his garage etc we just filled it! Its an estate car-no problem sir!

Our local tip is pretty good. As a previous poster said huge skips marked up with what can go in each. Cars, car with single axle trailer go as many times as you wish and recycle as much as you want. If you however have a pick-up truck you have to apply to the council for a permit for each visit and you are limmited to 3 permits per year, but here is where the rules go a bit wonky , if you hitch a single axle trailer to said pick-up and only load the trailer the same rules for cars apply?. Go figure.
------------- Dance before the storm and don't look back to where you've been.
If you can keep your head when all around you are losing theirs, you obviously haven't grasped the gravity of the situation.

wow what a rip off no wonder flytipping is on the up, £3.30 for a car tyre, My mate has a garage that also has a tyre bay they pay £70 to have 100 tyres desposed of, as for truck tyres we get a £50 casing credit on all our tyres, the casings then go for remoulds, your council charges you £45...... talk about rip off Britain,
At a local tip near me the tip workers have a transit van parked on site that they fill with scrap metal & if you want a gas bottle they charge a £5 for a small one or £10 for a large one,
I live on the border of Flintshire and Denbighshire. The nearest recycling centre is 3 miles away in Denbighshire, but as a resident of Flintshire by around 500m, I'd have to pay to use it.
The nearest Recycling Centre in Flintshire, is a 40 minute drive away. The only restriction is "No Vans or Commercial vehicles."
Everything has to be tipped into large skips, sorted into different types of waste. Nothing is rejected apart from asbestos. They even take tyres.
The Centre is also the Garden Waste recycling centre, where all the Garden Waste is composted. They have a pile in a corner, where your free to load up a trailer or as may bags as you can cart away full of the compost.
They even let you have Gas Bottles for free, but the cage is always full of the Companies who do not have any local depots or suppliers locally. I was lucky to get a 7kg Calor Bottle a few years ago, for free
Opening Times are dawn to dusk, every day of the week. Seems I'm one of the lucky ones

Have given up trying to clear stuff ourselves. The opening times 8am - 3.30pm at the local recycling or 7.30am - 4pm at the main tip are a problem and they change what can be taken regularly. Then there's the queues.
Tried to arrange a bulk collection by the council (£10 first 7 items £20 8-14 items) but the restrictions on what they do/don't take is mind boggling! Then it has to be gift wrapped or tied up with bows and left in exactly the right place.
Used 'anyjunk' to clear the last lot, 2 blokes load it into the van & they even sweep up. Cheaper than a skip & less effort.
Can understand why people fly tip but it still makes me angry when they do
