I used some of that on a landing window which was too high to reach normally so I couldn't have curtains. It was good stuff. Comes in all sorts of patterns and I used a stained glass effect and although it looked like a church from outside it was a lovely effect inside
It is quite pricey if you have a large area to cover though.

I've used fablon in the window at the top of the stairs, works a treat and has no loss of light. Wilkinsons sell it at £5.00 for a roll and its 67cm wide and I think 1.5m long

You can get it wider than that I have seen it one and a half metres wide
We have these fitted to our UPVC windows, works a treat. These got them from a local blind supply shop. They came measured up, then came back and fitted.

Highly recommend Brume window film. http://www.brume.co.uk/c/1/made-to-measure-window-film We got it made to measure for just on the lower sash window of a new upstairs bathroom, as no-one could look through the top pane but we needed a bit of "modesty" from the street below. We chose one with wee squares cut out but you can get other cut-out patterns. These shapes let the light in, but you can't see in as they're too small. You can get funky cut-outs that spell out a word or the house number - you name it. (We got a huge number for the glass over the front door too.) Easy to apply - you use fairy liquid, put the film up and wiggle it into place, and use a credit card to smooth out the bubbles. After that, you just wash it a bit more gently than you would wash glass.
Thanks a lot, I have got a white blind from Wilkinson, non black out and fairly thin which is just right. Nice to have all these options though in case I change my mind :)
