As a dog owner I don’t think I own an item of outer clothing which doesn’t have a quantity of plastic bags in one or other of the pockets. Responsible dog owners pick up after their dogs.
They also keep their dogs on leads and under control.
Cat owners on the other hand let their darling, well fed s**t machines out and don’t care on whose garden they leave their output. Neither do they care about the birds and other wildlife the damn things kill just for the fun of it because they are usually well fed.
A cat owner will tell you - its just its instinct, its only doing what nature intended.
If they venture on my garden I can honestly say I’m only doing what my natural instincts tell me to do. Up to now the offending moggies have had enough sense to bugger off from the hose pipe shot across its bows. If that fails there are two hounds in the household who don’t like cats one little bit. If that fails I could resort to missiles of various types until the stupid blasted moggy skulks off back to its selfish owner who has no consideration for others or they’d keep the blasted things under control and on their own premises.
If the cat owner says to that, “Its not natural to keep them in”. The logical answer to that is, “Its not normal to keep moggies - SO DON’T”. Or if you must just keep the bloody things keep them out of my way! I also get hay fever so I’m allergic to them anyway.
Thanks for all the suggestions! We have bought a packet of some sort of granular stuff that you shake around the place and it is supposed to deter them. We shook it all round the base of the gazebo and so far, there has not been a repeat performance of the spraying. However, the stuff smells like really really strong garlic so it may render the gazebo uninhabitable!

Many people laugh at that but when we were living in Africa we got some from the local wild park and it was very effective.
The other one I have heard of but never tried is to stick some bamboo poles into the ground and hand empty 2L coke bottles or similar over the end of the stick. Could be for birds though?

I must admit I don't judge people by whether they have a cat or a dag - each animal has it's societal benefits and drawbacks.
