Fiona...waze uses google maps, but is updated by its users.
so when someone passes a speed van setting up, they push a button. this alerts every user behind them that it is there. you may think that thats not a good system, but i`ve just logged into mine to be told there are 3,000 users online near me....
for walking there are other apps but i use os maps, and i get OS Explorer 1: 25,000 and OS Landranger 1:50,000 maps.
you can download them to the device so you dont lose signal (gps is near impossible to lose out on a trail) and best of all, they dont go soggy.....
if you subscribe, you get access to all 607 maps.
paper maps were all right, and i too can remember using them as a kid and in the military....
I had an old Snooper 2000, lovely bit of kit all the clubs sites and Cl/cs sites Used it all over UK and Europe, then 4 years ago they stopped the updates for it. So bought there new one with £150 discount. It is nowhere as good. Even wih width and length of our unit inputed it will take me along some very tight routes.
I will not buy another Snooper Sat Nav.
my tom tom broke when i dropped, so i googled how to fix it saw it on youtube very east just removed the outframe removed internal got the makers number off the sticker googled replacement number from a supplier in china when it arrived fitted the part and it been working perfect for 5 years. too many things get thrown away now.
We used Snooper for several years throughout Europe and never had a problem with it. Loved all the Lidl and Aldi were shown in every country We only changed when we struggled with the updates.
We now just use Google maps on our phones.
