No wonder the horse had to retire? I am also an ex-copper so have a vague idea of the restraints faced by the police force. If a major organisation notifies them of a theft, they do need to attend.

I'm sure they will if they have the available manpower at the time, but property theft is still way down the list of priorities. In the last 40 years I have had one Sprite Musketeer caravan stolen from where we were living at the time, and a Mazda Bongo stolen from where we live now, and on neither occasion did the police show much interest. Nobody even came to visit me on either occasion. I was just given a crime number and told to contact my insurers. My police friends told me that is quite normal these days as they just don't have the manpower. They will always prioritise crimes against the person over theft of property. Someone having been stabbed vs someone's caravan getting nicked? No contest.

No, but the police didn't bother to ask. It did have an alarm and an immobiliser though, both of which they obviously disabled as it was stolen off my drive while I was at home. I never heard a thing. I am convinced the Bongo was stolen by organised crime, and I told the police that. It was like they came for it specifically, as nothing around it was touched. I found out through the owners club, of which I was a member, that a whole load of them were stolen within a 20 mile radius of us, all around the same time, and not a trace of any of them was ever found. Stolen and shipped abroad within 24 hours I suspect. As I remember it some of them did have trackers although mine didn't.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
