Dk, the CCP's are as varied as campsites, some very good, others less so. And I believe the traditional aires were like that too.
The advantage of CCP's is that they advertise online how many spaces they have for that evening, so you can choose whether to go or not.
For a planner like yourself, you would need the Privilege account, as you can then book in advance. And you can stay for either any 6 hours, for a refresh, or any 24 hours.
We have only used one, an ex-municipal that we have used for many years, but we have checked out a few more where we have been nearby. Some are just car parks, others more pleasant. All well described on the website.
We, and mucker, have no bathroom facilities in our 'vans, so generally CCP's are for emergency use only, except in the summer, when some have a sanitary block open. These are listed as 'camping de mon village'.

Thanks for the comprehensive guide!
To date, my overnight pit stops were all campsites with full facilities.
Since I have onboard facilities of my own, I can stay in aires and CCPs with no bathroom and washing up facilities except for EHU.
The big advantage of CCPs and aires for overnight stops is late check-in compounded by no need to speak with anyone!

I don't use the cpp network but do see the advantage for those who like a bit of certainty after a days drive off a pitch to stop on.
I am quite happy to use the old free Aires system (the ones that are left)
the problem with them is the popular areas do fill up quickly depending on time of year, so you may have to move on.
over the last few years Spain is catching up fast with France for being more motorhome friendly although some coastal areas are beginning to kick back a bit due to overuse and motor homers not playing the game.
