Having got a son who had an accident on his way home, 3 days on life support,(fine now) thank God, you just want them home safe.

Then you can give them a good telling off, but at least they are alive and well to hear it..

My Sis has one like this. He is now aged 34 and still phones Mummy to bail him out of stupid situations (usually involving money) that he had got himself into. Always asking for money for something (has a full time job, but spends it like water and no idea how to budget). He always blames someone else for his troubles, it's never him, he is always the victim. Even when the police impounded his car as he hadn't renewed the insurance, it wasn't his fault, the police were out to get him. Not much you can do for someone with that attutude really.

No she didn't pay to get his car out. For all we know, it's probably been crushed by now. She finally had had enough that time, told him he was a grown up and about time he stood on his own two feet. It took a long time for her to get there, but she did in the end.

She moved 400 miles away for two years and he managed all by himself. The minute she moved back, it all started again, and he was told to think again.

At some point, you have to say no.

Not saying the op's situation is anything like this, but beware because that's where it might go if Mum keeps being there to be relied on..

Also glad he's home ok.

Years ago, my bag was snatched in Weymouth. The local police arranged some sort of permit for me to travel home on the train with, and a police car met me at East Croydon station to take me the rest of the way home.

I daresay this sort of help isn't one of their performance indicators and they don't do it any more.

I hope the OP's son manages to find a way home safe and sound, probably with a bruised ego, however, I would like to hope he has learnt a valuable lesson in being more selective in choosing his friends in future.

Surely you love your family unconditionally. You might not like the choices they make but that does not stop you wanting to help in any way you can. I would hope that my kids would come to me if ever they needed my help. Fortunately our boys are fiercly independant, whereas our daughter usually calls us if she needs anything. After all isn't that what families are for?

OOh, aren't we all so good....

I'm 43 - I would hope that if I got arrested and rang my Mam in despair, she would pull out the stops to get me home too, even if she had to go and buy me a ticket. Is that not what parents do or have I just been exceptionally lucky to know that no matter what happens my parents are there for me, good or bad?

I'm pleased you got your Son home safely, and hope you don't take to heart some of the comments, from people who clearly live perfect family lives.
