I think that's the point - catch people speeding as they are the ones not thinking while driving. Lapse of attention enough times and you receive a ban. Then eventually the roads will become a safer place as people learn to pay attention.

Hi Ollie.
Fact is even professional drivers will admit, that they can not remember almost anything from a short car journey, especially if it is the same route done on a daily basis.

It's just how the mind works, it's called being human.

The only way to solve the problem is to remove the human element, and no doubt one day in the future car's will simply drive themselves.

Hi Francais

It was a comment on Franbee's "it's easy to speed without thinking" comment. Drivers now have to concentrate 100% or you shouldn't be on the road, there should be no excuse. One lapse of attention and you can clip the kerb and be on the pavement - or just exceeding the speed limit.

My driving instructor said to me (30+ years ago) "Congratulations you've passed your test. Now you've got to learn to drive. Don't ever stop learning, conditions change all the time, make sure you maintain attention all the time."

You can avoid a liability for speeding when the cameras are used as part of the Safety Camera Partnership. Just ask for a copy of the contract between the safety camera partnership members, under the Freedom of Information Act, give it to your Solicitor and ask him if it breaches Article 6 of the Human Rights Act - Right to a fair trial. Most safety camera partnerships breach that right. The reason is that one of the partners is the Magistrates Courts Service and it actually agrees to convict motorists. The partners then agree that the fines will be shared amongst the partners to fund that partnership.

Now, a court agreeing to convict people, even before it has heard any evidence against them, denies them the right to a fair hearing.

When the first partnership was created they concluded a contract with such a stupid clause in it and that contract was passed around the other partnerships up and down the country and just copied. Oops

Phil

End result, pay the solicitor loads of money. I'd rather pay the fine probably considerably less expensive.!
