Lights are so bright these days, horrendous for dazzling people. Been times that I had to move my mirrors because of being blinded, or slow/stop when car was coming the other way.

Big 4x4s are the worst for this due to their headlamps being almost as high as the driver of a small car.

if the headlights are pointing where they should, the height of the car doesnt come into it....

And do not forget folks who drive with the " I know it is clear now, but I am leaving the rear fog lights on to let you behind me know it was foggy when I started my journey, even though visibility is now into the miles"

On a lot of cars when you put the indicator on the DRL dims down a bit.

Bessie

Low battery and dodgy alternator?

They don't have to be separate lights and are sometimes combined with the front position lamps (side lights). If this is the case, the DRLs dim when the headlights are turned on
If your daytime running lights are very close to your indicators, the DRL will turn off while the adjacent indicator flashes.

Of course it does, it is not only the centre of the beam that dazzles people.

no, it doesnt.

thats why you are not dazzled by every single 4x4, coach or truck you see.

if the headlight is correctly aligned, you will not be dazzled.

however....

how many people adjust the little dial on the dash when you put something heavy in the boot?

and again when they take it out?

i do, but then its part of our vehicle checks and i can tell you exactly what weight i have in the van at any one time.

but then just by looking out of the windscreen i can tell if they are too low or too high..

comes with experience.

by the way, i have spent 23 years working as a specialist in lighting, so if you want to talk about beam angles, field angles and % drops, im your man...

As for forgetting. My headlights are automatic.

Which only works if the ambient light is below what is set by the factory - the automatic bit doesn't always come in when visibility is poor (unless they've made vast improvements in the past few years)

Our current car has DRLs, which are, basically, the fog lights on a reduced current (they go out when side or main lights are switched on)
