Same hear madz..we have 12 for dinner every year and 4pm is our sit down time. We also have 5 vegetarians in the company, so really cooking two main dishes, well actually three as we have both Turkey and homemade steak pie for the meat eaters.

Vangoman, what do you give your vegetarians? Two of my daughters are vegetarians and I'm afraid they usually get everything we eat except the meat! But they do get their own roasters and gravy!

We do the roast potatoes seperately, using the par boiled method described in other post, then put roasters in tray drizzle with vegetable oil shake gently about to coat.
Remove when brown and crispy as you would do anyway.

Gravy is simply Vegetable Bisto Gravy ( in green box).

Main Meals vary, my wife who is veggie goes online to Vegetarian Society, BBC Good food and many more for recipes if you want to do it from scratch. She is one of the veggies and is not sure what dish she is doing yet.
Panic stations..lol

Tesco Finest did do Vegetarian Filo Pastry Parcels which were actually delicious but they have changed them this year and they are ok but not as good.
I enjoyed then and I am a meat eater..

Quorn Roast is also not bad (freezer cabinets in most supermarkets).

So how did the Christmas dinners go?

I didn't buy mine until Christmas Eve. I was going to have a joint of beef this year but then decided on a frozen turkey breast which only cost £5. After defrosting it took 1.5 hours to cook and was delicious. Even some left over for sandwiches.

I went the easy route and used Aunt Bessies roast spuds and Aunt Bessies roast parsnips (didn't bother with sprouts this year). Add to that some bisto gravy and some packet mix bread sauce and it was a delicious dinner.

I didn't even bother with Christmas pud this year. Had some mince pies and other cakes.

Steak pie on Christmas day. Bought half a dozen fresh turkey crowns and two ducks from the village butcher on boxing morning. £5 each, half the price they were asking on Christmas eve.

Elfe potatoes from Tesco, cost a bit more but delicious for mash, roasties, baked & chips. Par boil, sprinkle with garlic salt or salt & pepper then onto hot baking tray with olive oil - delicious. I had turkey breast and vegetarian OH had Quorn roast ( 2 for £3:50 from Asda). Stuffing and gravy suitable for veggies - simples! Plenty of turkey and Quorn roast left for sani's.

Well, I chickened out, so to speak, and did the roasties myself, not in goose fat though as our daughters are vegetarians. Yes, as usual they were lovely. I did try out the aunt bessies a few days before and they were very nice - i would use them again for a Sunday roast.

My great triumph though was the turkey. This year I bought a whole turkey as I wasnt willing to pay the price of a crown (extortionate this year). And I cooked it in a roasting bag for the first time. It was the best turkey I have ever cooked - moist and juicy with a lovely golden skin. No need to cover in bacon or anything. Only thing I did was covered my hands in butter and rubbed it over the turkey, a sprinkling of paprika and voila! Will definately do the same again and wont bother with a costly crown.
