I retired 16 years ago and they were certainly used then.

However, I have to admit that since my retirement I have had to call the police myself on a few occasions about local issues and have not been very happy about the response, including a 999 call when my elderly neighbour was being accosted by some youngsters and it took the police 30 minutes to arrive.

I called them once regarding the fireworks I mentioned and they didn't arrive until the next day...and then it was just a community officer or whatever they call them who admitted she hadn't got a clue about the laws on fireworks.

I had to educate her and then made my own investigations locally to determine who was responsible and what type of fireworks they were using as I originally thought, due to how loud they were, that they might be stolen banned fireworks.

So...don't ask me...I'm as frustrated with the way the police operate nowadays as everyone else but I daresay there are reasons.

I knew the job would go downhill once I left!

I dislike fireworks, purely for the distress they cause animals.

Inconsiderate neighbours have often been on the sharp end of my tongue.
