I think if any sensible person reads these posts they will be able to see that my efforts are aimed solely at trying to help smokers to stop smoking completely and to fend off, by sensible debate, those who would have them go blindly down the e-cig route and be hooked for the rest of their lives on nicotine. However, I expect any sensible person who really wants to give up smoking stopped reading this thread as soon as the e-cig brigade took over.
It is quite common on internet forums that when somebody doesn't have a sensible reply to the issues their only response is to try to humiliate the poster. I will leave it to the readers, if there are any left, to decide who has been doing that.
Only an addict thinks that their addiction is ok, smoke it or vape it you remain an addict - fact. Are ecigs less harmful, the real answer to that remains to be seen in the future, could just end up with same outcome different route.
If you want to give up smoking and kick your addiction vaping is never going to help you. Vaping is a lifestyle choice not an aid to packing in the fags for good and beating the addiction.
Rather than hearing from vape enthusiasts/professors it would be interesting to hear from someone who actually vaped and reduced their dose until they stopped completely as I am yet to meet one! I think many vapers are more addicted to the nicotine than they ever were on cigarettes as they vape far more frequently than they would smoke as it's more socially acceptable (some pubs ban it, but not all and people will vape inside theirs and others homes when they wouldn't smoke) and its way cheaper too.
If I repeat what others have said I apologise as I have found this late on and haven't read its entirety, but this is my opinion!
You are hardly going to hear all that much about Vapers and those that vape with no nicotine on a Camping Forum, however if you went onto a Vaping Forum, you would read plenty of stuff from Vapers who have cut down their nicotine strength to nil, but continue to vape because they enjoy doing so.
However, everyone is different and speaking personally I have no intention of "cutting down".
I changed to vaping because it was cheaper and healthier than smoking. End of.
I don't agree with you about vapers vaping more nicotine than smokers.
Smokers light a cigarette and usually smoke it until it is done, even when the first 2 or 3 puffs is all they really wanted. Vapers will have the couple of tokes they want and that's it. We don't keep toking away all day.
Everyone I know who vapes says the same. A couple of tokes and then leave it a while.
One tank of e-juice (5ml) will last me from 7am until midnight.
On a recent poll on a vaping website, the majority of vapers vaped about 5ml a day.
As to the "addiction" label.
Many of us are addicted to many things, be they pleasurable or otherwise, be they chemical, mental or physical. Just being on this forum means that I am addicted to camping and the great outdoors.
Addictions are only bad if you think they are bad for you.
One persons addiction could be another persons pleasure.
All the people i know who have successfully given up smoking just quit. No patches,e cigs, inhalers or alternatives they just gave up.
All the others i know who are "trying to give up again" or "only having the odd one here and there" tried all the alternatives the marketeers love to get you on instead and failed to give up.
I m finding the whole stoptober thing a bit weird really, its highlighting how many people are actually out of control with what they drink or smoke.
On FB im seeing loads back patting each other about how they havent had anything so far, only after a week !!
Someone asked if i was going to give up drinking and we had this intense debate when i said no i dont want to.
They suggested i had a problem but considering i can go a longtime without a drink any way because of the drugs and alcohol testing i undergo at work i disagree. A guy i worked with has just gone as he failed a test for drink, over 20 years out the window as he couldnt go without before a shift.
Years ago when i was fighting it was common not to drink before a fight for 2 months.
This discipline makes it easy now when i want, i dont need a gimmick to control something.
It all comes down to self control which many dont seem to have it seems.
I have no problem with doing the bit for charity but im sure many must be questioning their own habits judging by people i see posting on FB and here even.
I haven't had any alcohol, drink wise or in food, for over 28 years but I do not go around telling other people that alcohol is in any way bad for them. One man's food is another man's poison.
You keep connecting e-cigs with anti-smoking methods but e-cigs have NEVER been advertised as a method of stopping smoking.
Yes, some people do use them that way, but that is their choice in the same way as others use other methods or carry on smoking, again, their choice.
Having said that, 2 years ago I was given a questionnaire at the local surgery and one of the questions was "do you smoke". I answered "NO, I have switched to Vaping".
The next time I was in the Surgery I noticed that my Medical Records now stated, "Non Smoker". Despite the fact that I had been smoking for 49 years.
So Vaping, as far as the NHS are concerned, is a Non Smoking activity.
