The Asda story is a wind-up, yet another urban myth. Our Asda has no bag police, and anyway - are they checking people's pockets and handbags going in? 'Cos that's where the empty bags are. We also have Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons and Sainsbury in town, and a bag is a bag - all the customers use whatever comes to hand, including small rucksacks and the green plastic boxes that Safeways gave out for a while. Aldi & Lidl have always charged for bags, as that's what they do on the Continent. So some of us stopped using the flimsy bags long ago.
No bag police Fiona ? Or are they operating undercover ? . That seemingly innocent Santa may be fully loaded . Take a fresh look at , pigs in blankets .
I have amassed many plastic bags from the local supermarket, and shall not need to buy any for a very long time.
Just need to remember to bring a few with me when I go out and about shopping.

I remember shops used to have areas where you could pick up used cardboard boxes to put your shopping in. Why don't they do this any more. The supermarkets must have hundreds of cardboard boxes which they have to crush and recycle each day. It would make sense to make them available for customers to take their shopping home in.
