My grandson is 2 weeks old today. He was sent to hospital yesterday with a suspected virus. The doctor he saw used to be a cardiologist & suspected something amiss with his heart.
It was beating 260 beats a minute, normal baby rate is 140 beats. Medication slowed it down.
They have put him on antibiotics as a precaution & fluids as he is dehydrated. He is having tests today as he may have a hole in the heart.
We are off camping today,& I sure don't feel like going, however we will be an hour away from the hospital so will visit tomorrow. My son says there is nothing we can do so must still carry on with our plans.
My DIL mum is in Corfu so they have not told her, & my granddaughter is staying with her auntie. She starts school Thursday.
He is not in any immediate danger.
Wow, what a week it's been on here for tragic tales, and when anything happens, the sense of helplessness really hits hard.
Thinking of everyone going through difficult times xxx
Try not to worry too much. My son was admitted to hospital at 1 week because he wouldn't feed. Being one of twins they took our daughter too even though she was OK. A routine check showed she had a hole in her heart and a fast beat. 18 months on and the hole had gone. She is now a very healthy 15 year old and you would never know.

Hope he is soon fit and well. One of my grandaughters was born with a heart problem and was under the childrens heart unit in Leeds. Over a period of a couple of years the problem righted itself and she is now a happy healthy mischievous 5 yr old.
Sorry to hear more sad news yet again and my heart felt sympathy goes out to you and your immediate family. I am always stuck for words when I read sad stories like this but having read the other posts here it sounds like there is a strong possibilty that there could be a natural cure in the future. Let's hope that your grandson does make a full recovery even if it it does take a little time.
My OH's cousin was one of the first little ones to have the hole in the heart operation years ago.
My colleague in work discovered she has a hole in the heart two years ago when having test to see if she was OK to have a ceasarian!! She never knew she had it.
Medicine is just incredible now and what would have panicked people a few years ago we know is not so serious.
Alder Hey is renowned as a children's hospital. He's a little fighter. In a couple of years he'll be camping with gran and grandpa and driving you crackers.
All the very best and big hugs to him.

So pleased to hear the baby is better, I felt with you, I had the same experience when my youngest daughter was 6 weeks old, it was also caused by a virus, and further tests showed her heart was o.k. Hope there will be the same good outcome for your grandson, although they look so tiny and weak, remember that small babies are the toughest creatures in the world!

Hi, my sister had the same problem and spent the first 6 weeks of her life in hospital as a result. Was told she could never have children, but did.
OH also had the same problem, was monitored until he was 16. It left him with AF, which has been aggravated over the last decade by a couple of viruses. He know takes digoxin and warfarin, and eventually he found his job as a structural engineer physically too challenging (scrambling over the roofs of buildings, abseiling down them, scrambling under floorboards) but that wasn't until he was in his 50's.
It isn't stopping him from spending this weekend taking part in archery competitions, and didn't stop him spending last weekend sailing, so hasn't affected his life too badly!
