anyone on here had the operation to correct their lazy eye/squint. i will be seeing the consultant with the view that i need the operation, have been to the hospital already a couple of times having eye test ( suffer from double vision) and due to my job they are going to reccomend to the consultant that they give the go ahead for the op. for those that have had it done, how long did it take, were you in overnight , how long off work,etc and did it cure your vision.
Mate had it done last month. Painful for a few days after but controlled with codeine. Day surgery so no overnight stay. Normally two weeks off work but they own a flower nursery so signed off for another two weeks as it is dusty.
They bring you round to tighten the final stitch to make sure all is aligned.
My cousin had it done in the 70s. I was told I also had a lazy eye and was always petrified I would need it done too.
It is only in the last year my current optician has said I actually have the opposite as I am able to move my eyes independently and can make on or both go out of focus when I want (Not that I have any use, lol)

I also have a friend who had this done around 5 years ago.
Day case and was able to manage pain after with codeine, took a week off work.
The operation made such a difference to them, not only for cosmetic reasons(they were very conscious of their eye roaming, especially when tired) but also with regard to blurred vision and headaches which both eased greatly after.

I had it done twice in the early 1950s when I was very small. It didn't work the first time. I had eyes bandaged up for an entire week and was in the hospital even longer!!! Things have definitely progressed since then!! It did work though. Good luck
My friend's little boy ( he's nearly 3 years old) had an op recently for a squint, he was only in for the day, was sore for a couple of days and his eye was slightly bloodshot for about 4-5 days, he had to have eye drops for a fortnight, but his eye looks great now. He was such a little soldier about it, the only thing is, now anytime anyone wants to look in his eyes, he shuts them, lol. Obviously sick of everyone looking at him, bless him.
I had it done when i was about five, but when you get into your fifties it can come back, which is has, i tend to get double vision some times, and have a prisim fitted to my glasses, but due to the nature of my work the opperation will have to be done as the test over months means my eyes were getting worse.
