I did see some of his family on tele when the story first broke, saying it was all lies and how it would affect the charities he supported.
Its easy to say with the benefit of hindsight that these allegations should have been investigated while he was alive, but we must remember that he was obviously a man with friends in high places, a "national figure" who raised lots of money for charity, so who would have believed these very young girls, even if they had had the courage to come forward at the time? Some of them were from a home for disturbed youngsters, so even less credibility and even less confidence to speak out against a powerful man like Savile.
There should be a full, independent enquiry as it would appear that allegations are even being made about police involvement now in a cover up of some sort. This man had access to vulnerable youngsters - we owe it to them, if they were abused by him, to get to the whole truth of the matter, not to leave it in the hands of the gutter press.
Maybe it's not just about claims for damages, maybe it's more about people giving vent to feelings that they've had to silence and deal with, and try to reconcile, all these years?
I wouldn't call it 'hysteria' either. The sheer number of women who are now openly admitting what happened to them might even find it cathartic; imagine thinking, for years, that you are the only one, or different, or somehow to blame for what happened to you as a young person. I hope this pouring out of emotion and relating of circumstance helps them to heal, and alerts the wider public to what really can and does go on.
Talking about these issues and bringing them into the public domain for open discussion can only be a good thing, I believe. Only we don't really like thinking about the realities of this kind of situation, do we?
Ive met a woman today who was sat on his knee as an 8 year old. She says nothing untoward happened. How many may 'remember' stuff happening if they think theres money to be made?

his preference seems to have been for young teenagers.
Sorry Mick but I think that's a terrible thing to say.
I realise there are people out there who will & have told terrible lies to try & make money, but there are also genuine victims of sexual abuse. who have already gone through hell & to whom remarks like yours are likely extremely offensive & very upsetting.

Sorry, but its the 'real world' we live in. Of course there'll be genuine victims, but my question is valid.
Its no different to genuine whiplash victims in car smashes. Look at how many scammers are on this bandwaggon now. How does that make the real sufferers feel - but as it happens all the same, it cant be swept under the carpet for fear of 'hurting feelings'.
Mick S, Your last comment is a perfect example on how perpertraters get away with what they do.

By the way. These people choose their victims carefully, That is why not all are molested, possibly the reason why the person you met was untouched. And yes we do live in the real world, along with how it works.
May have a greater understanding on how devious people are than you do Mick. Maybe you need to look at the real world.
The 50s, 60s, 70s attitudes are so different than they are now. That is why legislation had to be brought out to protect women in the work place. and yes a few woman can be just as bad.
It was a sort of thing which was not talked about, men groping children, young boys and girls, or even teenagers. What was exceptable behaviour and what isn't. It is better now
I have spoken to my son, so he is aware of the sort of people around. And to becareful of swimming pools and funfairs. ect There are certain areas were I just won't let him go to. Or do sleepovers, as I know that he will go to these areas with his friends.
However he does have a lot of freedom, and does a lot with the friends I have known since they were babies. I just call damage limitations. There are alot more perverts than you think out there. Last thing to mention. Many of these people are the ones who are trusted. Jimmy Saville has the perfect cover.
