They might be able to name them but they don't know where they are we met many Americans and found out that they don't have a clue. More than one told us that you Europeans know where counties are in the world us yanks don't.

Americans tend not to travel abroad for two reasons, one being the sheer size of their own country, the other the minimal amount of leave they get.
They aren't stupid, just not well travelled. We are so close to Europe and live in a much smaller country. We get at least 4 weeks leave a year so we have more time and reason to explore the world.
The American cousins of my Bob in New Jersey are more educated than I ever was or even ALLOWED to be. They're the ones that have UK decent & know more about these countries in the UK, especially the ones they come from. Far more than we do.
Every time something is said on their TV about the UK or in this case England the ones in NJ are alert to it. I get emails asking if we are okay because OUR press have a little truth and a lot of lies printed to sell their tabloid gutter press papers. Sounds like a panic is going on over here. So many times I have had to tell them its our media causing and pursuing trouble where there is none or not much. i.e when we had all the weather, winds, floods etc happening, once they knew we were not all drowning and starving etc but it would take a little time to rebuild & mend.
THEY said Oh! you Brits will do it, you always bounce back from hardships, we can learn from you and have done so. Nothing is never too bad we cannot get over it and come back. They said it was typical of us over here to keep going when things got bad and our backs up against the brick wall we go forward. Whilst our press did nothing but drag us down. The Americans were boosting us up to go on.
There are millions of UK decendants over across the pond that take an big interest in their ancestry, so want to know what is going on here as they considered if its being done to us; it is being done to them ,as they are part of us.
Dont paint them all the same they are not no more than we are.
Nobody likes to be humped together with the ones that go around drunken bums,sex on the side of the road through being drunk and incapable of self control. Then fights, rioting etc. We are not all doing it and would never do so. So we do not like being lumped together with them moronic dirty louts. So why lump all the US as the same, they are not.

It was deplorable to hear & see the little boy who had stitches have them taken out when it was found his family had no health care insurance. Told to go to the charity Hospital.
No matter what state we are in, I cannot believe that would happen here as all hell would break loose. Not all can afford those prices. There have to be millions that cannot and not from any of their own fault.

Bean Park there are millions without Health care, not the really poor but the working poor. My daughter was without Health care for five years, because she didn't have a job that had an arrangement with anHealth care Insurer. She has it now but it isn't cheap. Even though the job offers Health care you still have to pay your share.
OH worked for the State of California and paid half the cost of his Health care which was $720 a month, his employer paid the same amount.. That did not include Dentist or glasses that was extra. Had we stayed there after he retired we would have had to pay $1000 a month out of his pension.
I was there 24 years and had a child go through the school system. She didn't learn to write a full sentence until she went to College and had an English, English teacher. The big Medical University near us in Northern California had to recruit remedial English teachers to instruct the first year students in basic English. These were Graduates from the High Schools not foreign students.
There are some really good things about America but lets not believe that everything about the place is wonderful. If it were there wouldn't be homeless families living in cars, and a school for homeless children, where they feed them and let them clean up as well as teach them.
Sorry but though obviously they are not `all the same' any more than we are, it seems worryingly clear to me that the average American's is woefully ignorant about the rest of the world.
In fact not just the average American, even many of the ones who have attained degrees from some of their top colleges & universities seem - well astonishingly ignorant quite honestly.
For example...
apparently 75% of university graduates when asked thought that the rest of the world all used dollars
I have it on good authority that when the first gulf war was on, there were a helluva lot of American troops that thought this meant they'd be shipped either to the southern states or to Mexico
I could go on.... but then in all fairness just switching the TV on to today's `reality' tv nowadays shows a similar worrying lack of education/interest/intelligence from your average Brit !
The present President, wanted to reform the Health Care System, changing the system based on our Healthcare system. Were everyone has equal rights to be treated.
At the same time change the insurance based system. Alas it was shot down by certain sections of the American Society.

I remember Clinton wanted something or other to do with changing health care before Barak did. Although they said it was a bit of a ???? but it should someone at the top knew what was going on outside the oval office. A you sai dit was shot down.
But so is a lot of things because there again to many chiefs not enough indians. State for State all things differ. It is so large with so many hundres of millions in it. Unless you have been there or know some people there it is hard to picture the sheer size of it.
A girl at school married an America, oever here she was totally qualified secretary. She took a Pitman degree for the American language and doing things their way in business.It costs the earth to do and finally got a job far below her qualifications according to them. BUT they soon called on her for the English way when needed. Extra pay ....... thats a laugh, she wasn't still good enough. Cannot tell people to get stuffed though or do it yourself. She needed to work also.
There are a lot of very genuine people all over the world. There are a lot of those others also. without any shame either just like over here. The want all for doing nothing ones. World wide I guess
