Cranium would be great for that age range and group of people.

Our dog bought us "Best of British" this christmas (he's good like that!).  It's a quiz game with simple rules, answering questions gets you round the board basically.  It can be played by individuals or teams.  We've really enjoyed it this Christmas.

We have kind pets as well.
I like the sound of "Best of British" - I may go and have a look in ToysRUs as the kids have some Christmas money they are itching to spend.

Wow, so many board games! you lot really are full of ideas!

at Anniemacxx - please could your dog share his shopping secrets with my dog? Ben The Mad Springer bought me a double pack of shower gel for Xmas - gee, fanks. And after all those soggy wet walks as well.

I'm SOO spoiled for choice. I'm liking the sound of Best of British, and Logo, and Scattergories. And the Post ItNote On The Forehead game sounds a hoot!

You could try UNO or Ratuki - both fun and easy to play card games...try Amazon or Supermarket for these. My kids also like PIT, I've never played but it sounds like fun (and it's loud!)

Pass the Bomb is a word game and is easy to play and quite fun. It has a timer that is shaped like a bomb that you pass around. The cards dictate what letters have to be in the word and some dice to decided what position in the word ie ER (at the beginning, middle or end) eg ERODE, TERROR or MANAGER. Does that make sense? The younger ones might need some help but you can work in teams.

Scattergories is a good game. Sometimes when we have a bigger crowd we just use paper and pens. You can have someone go through the alphabet in their head and when you tell them to stop they call out the letter OR put letters written on paper in a bowl and choose each time. You would decide the catergories before the start of the game ie name, colour, country, food, animal, job - whatever you fancy.

Not a board game but causes a good laugh.....sit in a circle on the floor.Put a number of desert size spoons in the middle( one less than the number of people.)Play music, when music stops grab a spoon. One without a spoon is out. So.o.o.o funny!

We play the caravan version of that with playing cards - everyone has 5 cards, one fewer spoon on that table than there are players. Idea is to make a run (2/3/4/5, etc) but no need to follow suit. Dealer deals and after initial sorting dealer says "put down" and everyone passes a card to their left. Dealer says "pick up" and everyone picks up the card they have been given. Quick sort  then "put down" "pick up" etc. If you receive a card you have had before you say so and everyone gives the cards they have been given back to the dealer who deals everyone a fresh card. When you have a run you pick up a spoon. When someone picks up a spoon everyone else can pick up a spoon, and the person without a spoon is out.

Total skill - none. Tends to degenerate into violence, but still great fun!!

Not a board game as such but a set of topple blocks (Genga is the best known of these) set up on the table with each person taking it in turn to remove a block can pass am hour or two....Be aware that the opperchancity for cheating is rife....and some in your family may take advantage of such....

Taboo is very good, a word description game where you have to avoid the obvious clues or get buzzed! Great fun in teams.
