Does anyone on this site find that you cannot use some car parks when you have your roof bars and box on car as the height is over the barrier into entrance of some car parks, we measured our height and it came to just over 2 metres, surely loads of people have people carriers, it can be a real pain.

We own a van and Tesco decided to fit a barrier and we nealy went into it! They had to reinstall it though as the local fire brigade paid them a visit.

its the perils of owning a large car with a roofbox.

We always take the roofbox off when we have pitched, that way we look less like a tourist when we go out.

we've recently put roof bars and a box on top of our Berlingo...we now have everything crossed that the stores and carparks we normally frequent on holiday all have high barriers...it's not something we thought of initially...we were just excited that we could add extra storage space...

I used to have a Zafira to which I fitted my roof bars and roofbox whenever we went away on holiday but I actually bought a roofbox that was longer and lower with the same volume as a standard box and never had a problem with height restriction barriers although I will say that there was only ever about three inches to spare. We never took it for granted though so my wife always got out did a visual check just to be on the safe side but I will admit that one camp site in Cromer the height barrier was just slightly lower with less than an inch to spare . Since then I have had 3 estate cars which were two Ford Focus's and now the Volvo which is two inches lower than the Focus so having a low roofbox is an advantage as I can even park the car in the garage at night with roofbox attached which is handy as I can load up the car the day before and lock it away at night for security.

We also take it of on holiday and use the spiral pegs thingys that you can screw in, think they are usually used to tether dogs, through the holes and then onse locked it cant be used.  Store stuff in it too like extra pegs, covers, bags etc that are not going to be used.
