do you pay extra for 0845 numbers, ? only i have been trying to contact the virgin experience site, which they do not reply to, all i get is a voice telling me to "hold the line" "more chance of me going to the moon i think", what caught my eye was one of their offers, the problem on their site is, why would i, "add to the basket" and pay for the trip, before i knew the date when i was going on it,and then it say "get in touch with the agent to verify " which when i have tried to ring i get a continuous engaged tone, talk about going round in circles.
0845 numbers from a BT landline are charged at local rates. However, if you are phoning from a mobile or other network then you need to check with the service provider how much the fee per minute is but it will be more expensive than using a BT landline phone.
If you google "say no to 0845" there are various sites that give you alternative numbers to ring the same place but cost less. Some numbers can be converted to 0800 so they are free. I've used this on numerous occasions, especially if phoning from my mobile.

0845 are local rate but are not free unless you have it included in your package.
I use 'Say no to 0870' to get an alternative. Also if they give you a line to use from abroad it is usually a non chargeable one.
Most mobiles charge for any 08 number and many companies now use 0844 instead of 0845 because BT and other companies do not offer these as free within their 0845 the package.
0845 are NOT local rate calls from any phone company, and have not been for the best part of a decade. They are non-geographic numbers. Calls are typically charged at between 1p and 11p per minute depending on the time of day for landline customers, and often include a call set-up fee of up to 14p. 0845 Calls from mobile phones generally cost between 14p and 41p per minute.
there is an interesting write up about 0844 and 0845 numbers in "money saving expert" this week, and because i could not get through to stupid virgin experience on Monday, they had withdrawn the offer on Tuesday, so when i finally got through yesterday(wednesday) to be told this, i wasn't very pleased, Rolls
