My cat is about 17 years old - not 100% sure as she was a rescue cat. She is not very active but has this has always been the case - she never goes very far and if your looking forward to her she is either on the bottom of my bed or in the flower bed if it is hot and sunny.
When we got her she had been kicked and had her pelvis broken so has always walked with a gait but this is becoming more pronounced. She was in the vets last year and was given some relaxants for another reason and the vet said that they could give her these to help with arthritis but they were very expensive.
What I was wondering is there anything that I can give her to help oil the bones. I take glucosamine and cod liver oil tablets and was wondering if there is a cat equivalent.
Ask your vet for the name of the drug, not the brand name, the actual drug name.
Then do a search to see if it can be bought off Prescription. Many times the drugs are generic ones, dispensed to Humans.
This was advice given to us by our Vet [whose now retired] who always put the welfare of the animal, above him making a living.
If he knew you were on low wages/benefits, he would take payments in instalments.
Drugs Dispensed by Vets, have a Premium on them, due to the huge amount of regulatory paperwork involved. As everything has to be accounted for, to the last pill. Even when the drugs are Generic, Non Prescription ones.
Our Vet will not even dispense Spot On, without seeing the animal, and when you have 2 dogs and a cat that is awkward trip.
Our local Chemists dispense Spot On and Wormer as well. and despite being a Independent one, it is cheaper than both the Vets, and Boots who also sell the product.
Tuna or sardines or mackerel fillets packed in oil is what my vet recommends as a general coat conditioner that's good for joints as well. You can break a cod liver oil capsule into tuna too but the vet said it wasn't necessary for sardines or mackerel, their flesh has more of the right oils than tuna.
We give our dog, who has arthritis, codliver oil and glucosamine tablets specifically for dogs and they do help. See no reason why there shouldnt be some for cats too.

------------- Wish I could go camping more and not have to work for a living!!!
Try green lipped mussel.Had our newfie on it and was like a different dog.It is the source of glucosamine but is not processed. Our dog could not stand the processed version.Holland&Barrett sometimes have it on offer.Think we got it from Simplysupplements online.Just break the capsules over the food
Homeopathic rhus tox helped my arthritic dog no end. His mobility improved and he had another 2 years of active life before other age-related illness brought the day when it was kinder to say goodbye.
