Not that I am permanently going over to "the dark side" of villas, just a one off for next year (camping in France much more relaxing in my opinion!) but I wondered if anyone could recommend any villa/apartment rentals close to the theme parks? Has anyone been to a particular one or could you recommend anything?
My sister has a Disney time share which she has just rented out on 'her' weeks, and when she advertised it, the response was phenomenal, so if your going for it, then get in quick.

Hello!

Thanks everyone!
We stayed in this villa 3 years ago and had a great time , it is about 20 miles from the disney theme parks
We have stayed at the Bella Piazza complex when DS lived there! Not the biggest, by US standards, but the pool was very nice, with a shaded lounging area as well as the pool deck with sun loungers and shades, and there was free wifi in the business centre. Nice little air conditioned gym, and a few shops within walking distance, including a Publix and a gas station. There is a Chinese takeaway, Applebee's, British style F&C shop, and an independent cafe, the Three Nenas there too. We still visit the cafe most days when we are out there, though DS now has his own place a couple of miles down the road. I believe it is about 10 or 15 minutes to Disney. You will hear the fireworks at 9pm every night.
it depends upon the time of year you intend to go,If you go between the end of April to the end of October then the best deals are usually available from private American owners.
Go on the net and search for Florida villa rentals Orlando you will find loads.
Don't be afraid to negotiate on the price.
If you rent from a UK owner then the best deals are between the end of Oct and the beginning of May.

Have alook on www.thedibb.co.uk, lots of British owners advertise their villas on the there, you also get some really useful advice, just like on here.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions, given me lots to think about.
Minicamper2001 - if I could take all my equipment and camp in Florida, I would. Mind you, be a bit hot and the Vermont XL, while an excellent tent, doesn't have air conditioning/hurricane proofing/alligator resistant material.
Thanks everyone. I really appreciate this site and all the help and support everyone gives each other.
Can you believe there are camping grounds in Florida, but all vans do have aircon! Alligators are not a problem, it's the snakes you have to worry about! Would love to hear how you get on with booking a villa or condo.
I would have a look around and see if there are any villa/apartment complexes that offer free transportation to the park as parking is about $20 -$25 a day so can add a lot to your holiday.
We are going next year but are staying in a hotel on International drive as we know we can get a bus to Sea World and Universal direct and then 2 buses to get to Disney. I know it is a bit of a faff but a lot cheaper than hiring a car and paying parking. Will taxi late on at night.
I have never camped in Florida, I would love to hire a big RV like Bradley Walsh and his son did on there TV programme but worried I woulds crash it. I have been to Orlando a few times but always stayed in villas that we rented online. Tried a few different sites but the last few times we have rented our Orlando villas from VR360homes. They seems really good.
Any advice on renting RV's would be great, are they easy to drive?

Would 2nd the Dibb, they have lots of UK owners, have booked a few villas through them over the years, but we tend to avoid Orlando now and head down to the Gulf Coast. We've booked a villa in Cape Coral for September through Homeaway, have also booked several villas through them as well
Take a day and get on the Bee Line to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Centre, it is mind blowing. You will have a great time in Florida...............We both said it is a great place NOT to take the kids.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
