We were informed on Wednesday (13) that redundancys will be happening before Christmas.
Should we have had this in writting? Iv been there 18 months and 3 of that was on agency.Iv gathered i will be given 1 weeks notice regarding my time there.Im 45.
1it just i dont want to get to next Wednesday to be told oim out the following week as iv a few finacial things to sort out.
Yep well with less than 2 years service you could be a likely candidate as little to almost nil redundancy due unless there is a Union involved, statutory redundancy is pants in any case.
Thanks to this current Government they only need to give you 30 days notice, when the other lot were in it was 90 days, that makes a big difference when the wolf is at the door.
If only part of the workforce is being made redundant, then they have to go through due process, and you need to be advised that your position is at risk whilst they sort out the selection criteria.
If I was you I would go on the sick, so straight to the quack to make it official, this will give you more time to focus on getting another job.
All that you are legally entitled to is one weeks notice I am afraid. There will be no statutory redundancy pay because you have been employed by the company for less than two years. Your contract of employment may have different provisions but that may be unlikely.
Best option may be to thank your Boss for the job and wish him well in the future and just say that if he finds that he may need some more staff later on you would love to come back. Better to keep your options open and leave a positive impressio nwith your Boss....you never know

And do that anyway..... even before you are officially informed (Saying that you presume it affects you). You never know, there may be time for the hierarchy to change their minds on who stays, and who goes!
Sorry , but by one weeks notice, do you mean 1 week after i get the oficial letter or does my employer have to give me 30 days notice then the letter?
When iv been maded redundant before its always been in lieu.
Colouroll sent out letters by courier (did not have a clue before hand)
and cleaning company told me Friday i would finsh the Friday after.
It could be like this Monday morning I am afraid ....Good morning here is your notice you leave next Monday
Phil :-(

me and 2 others were made redundant that day 1 voluntary.
Floor manger had words with owners and he was made redundant on the monday. After 4 years service.
You were lucky you had any notice at all. My OH went to work on a Thursday (also payday) started work at 8am, rang me at 10am the whole factory made redundant with immediate effect and also no wages. He was home before lunch

Anyone know how the pay works? Do i get taxed on lieu, redundancy or holiday?
Redundancy pay up to £30000 is tax free, anything over £30000 is taxable as is holiday pay and pay in lieu of notice. Holiday pay and pay in lieu of notice can be tax free if it is "wrapped up" in a Compromise Agreement" which is a legal document and should be read through by a solicitor before signing.
Hi Suns, sorry to hear that you have been potted, it has happened to me around 5 times since starting work back in 1976!.
Anyway onward and upward, the only real answer is to work for yourself and become self employed, although I am far to lazy to do that.
So if you are anything like me, you will soon find another job, were you can do as little as possible for as much as possible.
Don't get me wrong I am a hard worker, but only relative to what I am paid and what the long term prospects are of the job.
I meet so many folk who are just so precious over there pathetic little job, when what they really need to be doing is waking up and smelling the coffee.
At the end of the day it's just one big game, so play it your way, not there way.
Hi sorry to hear your bad news the redundancy process changes with the size of the company. 30 days notuce is normal but with statuary redundancy now its not a lot i would burn your bridges there if you get on well with them. Its a crap time of the year to do this sorry again.
