You are required to switch off alarm on ferry. Plenty forget though & you can usually hear alarms going on & off throughout the crossing if its choppy.
My 2002 MINI Cooper has a motion sensor, and that needs to be switched off when I take her onto ferries, or the alarm will go off.
When the dog is in the car, again, I would need to switch off the motion sensor.
Poor dog had been in the car when the alarm went off because his evil human has forgotten to switch off the motion sensor, and he was not amused!

When i had my vauxhall at the light's there is the two buttons tht you press, and the alarm did not set (as we had 2 dogs on trips). Found that it useful when having to leave in car when at shops.
Your handbook will say. My Golf has a rocker switch inside the driver's door frame, which turns off the alarm if the dog's inside. Following an earlier suggestion, people aren't allowed to stay on the enclosed car deck on the Arran ferry so most take their dogs with them on deck or into the lounge. Calmac (which runs that ferry) has no rules about turning off alarms - cars with more sensitive motion sensors have alarms going off, with or without dogs inside, but they don't bother anyone as they're out of earshot.
