Hoping someone can help.

I'm signed up with Sky but the contract term ended a while ago, I want to upgrade to the multiroom and for existing customers it's £11.25 a month with free fitting and a free sky box however the box they supply is a basic one which you can't record on.

The multiroom box is for my Mom who is moving in and she would like a recordable one but they are £249 for existing customers and free for new ones.

I asked the Sky advisor if I could cancel my tv subscription and set it up as a new customer in Moms name but she said that she can't give advice on that which I'm assuming is a yes but I don't want to go ahead and do it in case I've got it wrong.

I wondered if anyone had done this? Cancel current subscription and set up a new one on the same address but under another occupants name to claim the new customer benefits?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this is any help, but when we wanted to upgrade to HD, Sky were offering a free box for new customers but wanted exisiting customers to pay £199 for the box and new dish!  Hubby (account holder) rang Sky and said he wanted to terminate his contract if they wouldn't upgrade for a reasonable price - he was put through the their customer retention dept and we got the HD upgrade for £50!  It might be worth a try, but the trouble is you'd have to be willing to lose the contract if they didn't play ball (which hubby was - we would have gone to Virgin).

Everyone gets a free box when you sign up to Sky, you still will only get one recordable and one non-recordable for free as a new customer.

You could add your current boxes to your new account, but would have to wait till your account completely cancels before you can do this - but this will give you 2 recorable boxes recycling your current one. you may be without TV for a week or 2 doing it this way.

You could try above and say you want to go to Virgin as all of their multiroom boxes are recordable and free I believe - but have to be prepared to cancel if they still don't offer it you.

Do you have HD? it maybe cheaper to upgrade your current main box, and move you old one to your mum's room......did you look at that option?
