After 13 years camping and more recently 10 caravanning we have just sold our caravan.
I recently posted that we were thinking of selling up due to change in family circumstances.
We thought long and hard as to keeping our van but it made more sense to let her go.
Hopefully a new adventure will develop for our family.
And I will never say never that one day we will return to the life of outdoors and freedom.
Thats a shame, but have you ever travelled on canals? My parents used to camp then caravan, then they went on a canal boat holiday. They bought a small one for weekends etc then after a few years they bought a 58 foot boat to live on. I have never seen my parents so settled and happy.
Sadly due to ill health they have had to move back into a house. But they have so many fond memories of their time on the water

We did 13 years camping before we moved onto a caravan. Like I said never say never.
I have to admit I have been looking at tents. If the weather was better I'd look at getting one sooner rather than later, but it's the weather that made me move onto caravanning.
Our lovely van goes in the morning. Guess where I will be spending me evening, yep probably sat in my van ; (((
Why not try a trailer tent, these look like fun...but I'm strictly a tent person, but admitedly we only ever camp in France these days. We use dto go up o the lakes every weekend before we got the cat, then our lives changed and our singing meant lots of weekend concerts.
We tried the lakes 2 years ago,,,,,,,,too cold, poor facilities compared to France, so we do 3 weeks in the summer and thats it..the rest of teh time its hotels.

There's a lot to choose from but some brands are far superior to others. We have an Outwell Hartford L but never use it...far too big, takes too long to erect, so we use a modular system of two 5 X 5...suits us perfectly. Buying tents is fun.
Never caravaned, as I was indoctrinated as a child, my parent were not keen on the idea, and prefered the back to nature approach.
I can remember camping in Wales as a child and finding it odd how people in caravans just seems to stay by the caravan and do nothing.....of course this is a warped view, and most of the peole we meet caravanning in France are like us, up and off every day exploring.
The one thing you will miss is a hard floor under you and the weather doesn't matter. Camping in tents can have its draw backs, but I do love it and hope you do.
there is one this for sure, we will never be of the breed that seeks a concrete block (hotel) with a pool in some busy resort.
We do meet some loevely people from all walks of life on campsites. I love to see young families giving the next generation such a wonderful outdoor experience.
Wherever you choose to try it out, you must go to FRANCE, camping in France is fabulous......more space, big pitches, great facilities and sunshine

I would avoid brands like Hi Gear which is a bit like Regatta compared to Berghaus.
Vango are, or certainly were a quality product.
Outwell.

Wow how tents have changed. The last tent we had was a Cabanon frame tent. She was a great tent but we are looking for something a little smaller in size once it's folded up,as we are looking to downsize our car. From the advice so far I think we best look at Outwell, Vango or Khyam. Have to say I didn't realise there was such a choice.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
