Lake District is a bit like The Trossachs - but with far more people. What I like about being here is there's so much variety in easy distance, and all our MH trips are chosen on the spur of the moment, never planned far ahead. High class annual exhibitions - Kirkcudbright. Needing sunsets - Machrihanish. Want to see snow - Aviemore. Snowdrops - Garlieston, or Culzean, or Fife (for Cambo). Tropical gardens for Camellias - head to Logan by Portpatrick. Pointy mountains - has to be Skye. Individually shaped mountains - Assynt, nowhere like it. Silver sand beaches - ah, don't start me! Lochs - oh, which one to choose. Dark sky - not just the Dark Sky Park in Galloway, the west coast of Arran is stunning at night (or any of the islands - saw that big comet on Islay in a black sky, awesome). Pretty fishing villages - east Neuk of Fife and east of Nairn (Cullen etc). Stone circles - has to be Kilmartin Glen near Lochgilphead, though Callanish is on the list. Birds - is it Osprey time? let's go to Dunkeld (closer than Aviemore, better looking nest site too.) Castles - Stirling's my favourite (with Witches Craig a favourite site nearby), and not far from previously-mentioned Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel. But Eilean Donan's no' bad... I'll need a fix of pipe bands at some point (Cowal Games, Edinburgh Tattoo). Wet weather? just move on - we look for the hole in the sky with the sun coming through, and see where that takes us (Beauly it was, last time the weather closed in). And East Ayrshire has its charms, doesn't it weegmack - Dumfries House, for example.... (Though I can't think of a good campsite site nearby.)
