Hi the CPC licence has come into effect from today I was wondering if the anybody thinks its id cards through the back door and how enforced are these going to be .

Not sure if Joe is referring to the requirement to carry the card when working? If so, it's not very different in principle to the bus driver's/conductor's licence badge introduced many decades ago.
Thanks Bob, just googled it. I see the logic of it. Having to do 35 hrs to keep the licence for competency. OK means having to pay out extra dosh for it.
No different to Nurses, who have to do so many many hrs of training in order to keep their pin number. With out this Nurses are not allowed to work. If people found negligent /incompetent pin number is invalidated. That nurse is not àllowed to work.
Look at that lorry driver, who knocked down an elderly person, who had their arm amputated, was only fined £75 and 6 points on the licence. OK he was an overseas driver.

Does anyone know if these rules on CPC actually apply to the drivers coming here from abroad (who incidentally seem to be causing a lot of accidents on motorways round here - I have seen evidence of very poor driving myself on my regular motorway commute and wherever possible, keep my distance from the big foreign lorries).
If everyone has to comply, then obviously it's a good thing, so long as it is properly enforced.

Yes it does but standard of training will be decided in the EU country where driving licence is held. Ie standards of hgv driver training & driving tests may be much lower in, say Romania than UK. Also corruption is rife in these countries so who knows if test examiners are bribed etc? Any EU Hgv licence & this new cpc allows holder to drive in any other EU country, either in a vehicle they have driven from their own country or they can come to UK & get an hgv driving job here.

The correct answer here is yes,no,sort of.
It is all based on when the home country decided to implement the rules.
If say all Germany says it's the 25th December 2017 then drivers with a German address will not need to have it until then.
You have needed something like this in France for years if you wished to drive for a French company.
The Irish needed it from 2013.
Regarding foreign drivers they are IMHO trained to a far more superior standard than British drivers. Bear in mind that the uk test does not even need you to drive on motorways.
I agree with it, even thoughI 'm an experienced lgv driver but now run the yard there was something that needed to be done, people with licences were going into agencies and being sent out on driving jobs, some hadn't got a clue and whether you've been driving for 50 yrs or just recently got your licence there are some modules you will learn from, I had a driver come into our yard 2 weeks ago, he was working for a agency and driving for the RNLI, I loaded a 3 ton engine onto him and he asked if he needed to strap it down, then how to use the ratchet straps, Got talking to him and the agency had paid for his course to drive a 7.5 and his dqc, but he admitted he'd had the same module 3 times (to make up his hours which some do and they're allowed to) but didn't complete the safe loading/securing a load module......So I agree with it, and as for carrying it about with you isthat such a big deal,you've got your licence and digi card, what does one more matter?
