We need to get to Park Farm CL which is near the Showground at Stafford (Weston Road, A518). We have always used J14, wondered if J13 would be better from the south?
Thanks, no routeplanners say to go either of those ways though. We don't mind the toll and will be towing so prefer to use motorways, but will look at your suggestions. All I really want to know is whether J13 is better than J14.
Very little in it, in theory, and I guess what you're really relying on, is a local that can tell you what the traffic is like in the town centre?
According to Google maps, "Your way", going around the west of Stafford and exiting at J14, is 10.3 miles/14 mins from J13.
Coming off at J13, and taking the A449 & A518, shows 6.1miles/15mins, but cuts through the town centre.
A third option, staying east of the town, but again taking the A449 from J13, it shows 6.5 miles, and 15mins.
So in theory, there's only a minute in it, but J13 saves a little on mileage.
If it was me, I'd risk it, and take one of the J13 options, but I guess a lot depends on time of day?
Sorry... not helping... just waffling! Good luck, anyway!
PS:
... But then I thought... hang on... I bet they're bloody towing... which it now looks like you are... so I'm gonna take a stab at staying on until J14... but what do I know? I don't tow!
Blimey, Mrs B, for saying it was a simple question, you ain't getting much joy, are yer? Sorry!
Thanks, yes, I thought it was simple! We always use motorways and tolls if needed and we are towing. I think we might stick wih J14, which avoids the town.
Use J 14. Most of Stafford is being dug up for one reason or another and is a nightmare to get through solo let alone pulling a van. I work at MoD Stafford (on your route) and use the M'way between J13 & 14 myself rather than going across town.
using the a5 tho is the most direct route and its a good road, ok a few roundabouts on it but not that bad, plenty of places to pull over if need be too
The A 5 is a load of crap since they altered everything you have to switch lanes on roundabouts and locals won't give you a chance towing a van. stick to toll road and avoid M6/M5 junction and come off M6 at 14 less hassle with van. My Son lives in area and he uses motorway always unless roadworks on M6
Thanks, that has backed me up. We don't go anywhere near the M6 in Brum any more. Was thinking of the A50 as there is a site (Black Lake pub) near Stoke but looking at it we couldn't get Sky tv (very important for OH, 2 lots of fotball on 21st), plus it's all grass and Park Farm has hardstanding.
We are going to Ruthin in North Wales, and before anyone tells me we should be using the A41, we have been that way, it is quicker in miles but I bet we will use less fuel and have a more hassle free trip using the motorways as much as possible.
