She'll leave a huge Jess-shaped hole. And I agree - I think she held on to be with you in a happy place before she passed on of her own accord. But - please don't decide too soon that you don't want another dog. We so missed our dog's company, her love & cuddles, and the routine that goes with having a dog camping, that we gave a grown-up rescue dog a happy home a few months later. (Didn't want a pup, given our own ages plus how long a dog lives.) We still talk about the previous dog very often, she'll always be in our hearts as Jess will be in yours.
