Well, some of us do take our internet on holiday too.3 mobile, wifi I think they call it. And its been surprisingly excellent wherever we go.
Except a lil place called Powfoot, Queensbury Bay, Borders. The site where Im writing this now, has its own BB, but its very basic. My 3 connection is excellent, so it says, but. . .red indicator with a lock attached. And a strange password requirement to unlock it. A mile down the road, there is no such requirement, the conection is made automatically as id expect.
Can a site block out other internet providors in this way, or is my cynicism misdirected?. . . ,(wouldnt be the first time!)
And if the site sees this message. . .ha ha

It is possible your PC/laptop/mobile devise has jumped onto a stronger connection and is one that requires a password. Check you internet connection to see if this is the case.
I can't see how the campsite could block your phone signal. Have you checked out Robert's idea above just in case its trying to site system. You don't give us much information. Are you using your phone as a computer, are you using a MiFi device on Three Network, are you tethering your phone to a computer. Have you used your phone to make a voice call where you are?
The infos there. Mobile wi fi feeding Nexus tablets, no tethering. . .i can take it with me anywhere. But this is the first place i cant use it. The military angle could be interesting however. . . .

You may not have a signal for your mobile provider in that part of Dumfries & Galloway (the Borders are in the east), where it's more likely to be Vodafone than 3E and even then not 3G or 4G. Your phone will try to connect to the nearest wifi signal, and whoever owns that hub doesn't want all & sundry using it as it'll cost them more or use up their BB allowance, hence the padlock and the need to ask for the password so you can log in, or you may need to buy a voucher. If you have the BT WiFi app on your phone, it'll show you where the nearest hot spot is - loads in Annan. Relax about the military stuff - it's nonsense. I suggest you ask the site owner.
We lived on an Raf radar station, the radar was on all time, when it swung towards the married quaters the tv would switch channels, really annoying, we did sort out problem with chicken wire, didnt look good but at least we could watch tv.
Terminology is a little askew here! Wifi is used to connect top a local hotspot or router ... if you are connecting to 3 Mobile this would be on mobile internet not wifi!
If your wifi ability is switched on, and if the site have a wifi service you could be connected to that (possibly requiring a password to use it - hence the padlock symbol) and this is over-riding your mobile internet connection. Go into settings and switch off wifi ... try again. Or alternatively (if my guess is correct) get the password from the site (you may have to pay of course).
It could also be that the mobile signal is good for phone calls but not good enough for mobile internet ... 3 Mobile would be the people to confirm that for you.
Edited to add - just checked Powfoot for 3 Mobile coverage and it says you should get a good 3g signal!
Just turn wifi off. The 3 mobile cellular dongle doesn't need it and with wifi off on your laptop the site's wifi and surrounding wife's can do what the devil they like it won't effect you.
I've used a 3 mobile dongle for several years now at home and all over the country in the van. I must say it has been excellent. However, anything that operates by rf cannot be 100% and there will always be the odd spot where the signal cannot reach. I've only found one spot where I couldn't get a signal and that was on a small site at Lloc in North Wales, phone wouldn't work either. Went a mile up the road and no probs. I would hardly think the site would go to the trouble or expense of jamming signals bearing in mind there are a number of operators using different freqencies...Mick
mrdasher just for interest sake there is always one time slot on a cellular base station site reserved for data traffic. a basic bog standard minimum site has 4 slots available.
I will check when I am back at work on Monday with the local network engineers to see if there are any local environmental issues which could affect this and get the coverage mapping updated if there are, our engineers maintain many of the masts for the various networks, so hopefully they should be able to report back to me which networks are the best up there.
I know they are busy rolling out 4G hardware, and in some cases, when the 4G hardware is installed, the 3G coverage is affected, but we can usually compensate for that, unless in some rare cases you are on the edge of the transmission area.
Many setups are designed to choose a wifi connection if it is present rather than a connection using telephone data. If your system sees the Wifi and can connect to it ( even though it can not login to actually make use of it ) then it will choose that in preference to a telephone signal. If you want to use the mini signal you will have to turn off the wifi connection.
As an example on a Cc site with wifi my phone sees the wifi and takes me to the login page automatically, and since it has been able to do that it considers that there is a usable wifi signal available it assumes that this is the signal to use and prevents use of the alternative.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
4G and 3G are only really to do with the speed of the data traffic on the site. Voice is handled the same way it always was as I'm sure the engineers will confirm.
Of course in reality ALL traffic through the site both speech and data is digital and therefore its all data anyway. Its just that the site has 4 time slots and one of them is reserved for non speech related data thus ensuring you can always connect to t'internet.
They don't seem to care that much whether you can actually use your mobile phone to TALK to another human
OK so CC site all have WiFi blocking devices of some description.
I've been a member over 30 years and noticed the WiFi masts popping up on site and lack of Internet signal other than the CC login site.....obviously been the strongest signals.
I pay my subscription through my three contractor and detest the fact that the CCthen makes you pay again and at a ridiculous price for the privilege of being on there prison camp....
There prices average 40+ per night with additional cost for a couple of gB of network so you can research the area and book tickets etc to local events...
So this joke that's ruddy expensive how do I get around it.
I'm an electronic engineer by trade and other than making a super hot blocker and dumping it somewhere....lol....that blocks everything and would run on a battery and last a couple of years. .lol
No TV no radio no Internet walkie talkie or anything....and simple to make too...
And cheap....but that's a different matter.
I want to be able to get my own network up like most of us and not be coned by the CCsiite.....
I dont have a dongle and Don see why I should after paying for tge privilege anyway through my provider.
There must be some kind of law ?
I'm disabled and can not walk and if I need help I ring or send a message......but can't.
How can I get around this?
Any advice welcome please.
I've tried everything on my phone but lost after that.
