Ps, and this may astound some - this is my third week alcohol free, the first time in my adult life I've had more than a week without some sort of alcoholic drink.
We had our first 'dry' January (until our first Burns Supper of the season on Friday) and we both lost half a stone and some of the wobble at the waist.
I've not quite managed dry January but I've only had 6 units (I always use a measure) since 30th December. I've decided to keep to minimum alcohol intake hence my continuing quest. When I think of it my alcohol intake was right up there! I don't drink a lot but I drink often, especially at the caravan - starting with a beer at the pub after a walk which means I was drinking during the day as well. A habit I am keen to cut out, followed by a few in the evening with friends. I suppose it's about changing bad habits and rethinking the alcohol-associated routine. So I will keep the caravan stocked with NA options of beer and wine (I don't like fizzy drinks etc) and try to interchange my drinks. See how it goes.
Ps, a big part of my job is delivering alcohol education lol!
I only very occasionally drink wine or beer and do not have a sweet tooth and find most non alcoholic drinks are either too sweet or contain sweeteners to make them sweet.
Can anyone suggest a suitable drink for someone who has more savoury tastes. Would like to sip something cold in the evening after copious amounts of tea and coffee.
Like tomato juice and worcester but fancy a change.
The beers are not sweet, in fact I think they taste like ordinary lager. Avoid the non-alcoholic fruit ciders which taste as if they have about 20 spoonfulls of sugar! I find the wines too sweet also.
Well I tried that Waitrose alcohol free wine and it wasn't great too sweet for me and not really winey at all. With a meal deal in Sainsburys I picked up their Taste the Difference Sparkling Elderflower Presse - well that's the nicest non alcohol drink I've had in a while. At a push its a little like a chilled NZ Sauvignon Blanc - I had two glasses in quick succession it was so nice and I had a clear head the next day!!
Decaf coffee serves a purpose though. I suffered with gastric reflux for a year and coffee set it off. I still wanted coffee so had decaf and couldn't taste the difference and didn't suffer. The problem with alcohol free wine is that it doesn't actually taste like wine which is the problem.
Koppaberg Alcohol free cider is nice. Even my son who is Straight Edged (no drink, tobacco, drugs) will have a glass.
I love it as it means that I can still enjou a drink without falling asleep.
