Depends what media app is on it. Look for an android box with Kodi (used to be xbmc) fully loaded. You can then add custom repos to get whatever you want to watch.
The stock remote is usually rubbish. We use a mini wireless keypad.
Get the best processor and memory you can. Built in wireless, Two usb ports and a memory card slot. You'll need an SD card too.
As for use. If you have used an android tablet or phone then you'll be at home.
We use ours in the kitchen and it is great.
