I have just found a lovely bungalow for sale at West Ayton, 5 miles west of Scarborough, l would love to move there, but my husband says that at 75, his house moving days are over, and he wants to stay put.
We live in a house at the moment and with my health problems l can no longer manage to get up the stairs, so his answer is to buy me a Stannah stairlift for my next birthday, although tbh, he will probably use it as much as me when his bad back is playing him up!

I think it's quite often the case that people don't think about moving before they actually need to. This happened to my aunt and uncle; they lived in a large ground floor flat (with garden) in an Edwardian house that had very nice features, parquet floor, old fireplaces etc and they didn't want to leave it. They did have a look around at other places, but nothing measured up. Unfortunately their last few years there were not happy; failing health, falls on the steep front steps, maintenance problems, onset of Parkinson's etc. If they had sacrificed style for convenience while they were well enough to cope with a move, they would have been spared a lot of trauma.
I've lived in my present home for nearly 26 years and enjoy it, and the garden - but if it all started to become too much for me I would not be heartbroken about moving to somewhere easier to look after, that meant I'd need less help and could stay independent for longer.

I suppose that we are lucky to have the Caravan and to have made friends with a CL owner along the Filey to Scarborough coast, so we can spend some of the summer in one of our favourite spots in Yorkshire, without having the upeval of a housemove.
There is every chance as well that if l was to go and view the bungalow l found at West Ayton on the internet for real, it may show up a few warts that make it less desirable than l imagined! This happened last year when we went to view a property up Box Hill in Scarborough, only to find that it backed onto a noisey school playing field, and was not the peaceful location that we hoped it would be.
We also viewed a place a bit closer to home which was structurely very nice, only to find it had legal issues regarding an unadopted private road that led to the old orchard that it had been built in, along with 4 others, which could lead to disputes over maintainance and resurfacing costs in the future, so we left it well alone.

Can't be that bad here we live in a village outskirts of Leeds and had a family from down south buy big through terrace with garden the length of five houses, one by one members of their families bought rest of the houses in the row.
My parents retired to a cottage in the country in Yor$$$$$$$ (mustn't say the rest). It was great for them for a few years, however as we get older we start to need shops more locally, hospitals etc. Yes I know you can shop on line and have it delivered, but as my parents found, once they could no longer drive, they had to move back somewhere with local transport and local amenities, and start all over again making new friends.
